Would highly recommend a visit, our kids are hooked
Took our 2 children to use the fun walls which were amazing, plenty of verity for them. The instructor was amazing, very good with children and somehow managed to keep an eye on all of the kids attending, even remembering names and encouraged them throughout. The centre was clean and spacious. Good cafe area with plenty of drinks and food options to pick from all situated in a nice viewing platform so we could keep an eye on the kids. All in all a great place to visit, great for adults and children of all ages and abilities.

Excellent clip and climb children's party
We booked a clip and climb birthday party for my 7 year old son. Very well organised. Excellent facilities and big, bright party room. Good number if children in the area at one time (two parties with two instructors) and the children loved it. Would highly recommend.

    Excellent children’s birthday party venue.
Fabulous, well organised fun for everyone. We had a children’s party which I was, to be honest, slightly dreading but I needn’t have worried. Staff were great - friendly, attentive and efficient. Great emphasis on safety but not over-bearing so everyone was relaxed and able to enjoy themselves. Facilities are great, cafe was good and remarkably good value and I was able to take my small one to the adjacent unit to do bouldering as opposed to rope climbing. Not too busy, clean, organised. Thoroughly recommended for a day of family fun or as a birthday party venue.

Rockstar Climbing centre is split into 3 sections: a ropes section, which this review is of, a clip n climb section (in the same building as the ropes but separate) and a bouldering centre, which is located in a nearby but separate unit.

LOCATION
It is on an industrial estate and is easy to get to by car. There is lots of free car parking outside.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Clean, spacious and light, and not cold. Friendly staff.

REGISTERING/COMPETENCY CHECKING
It is easy to register online beforehand. The competency checking was straightforward - rather than squinting at pictures to 'spot' mistakes, you just had to demonstrate tying in, belaying, lowering and catching a fall.

STORAGE
There are small mesh metal lockers to store your stuff in - bring your own padlock.

TOILETS
Clean!

THE CLIMBING
So to the important bit - the climbing!

There are lots of lines, and lots and lots of routes. At the bottom of each route is the grade, when it was set, and it also gives the name of the route setter, which is helpful as you can get a feel for who sets climbs you enjoy (and who has clearly longer arms than you!) All are on the griponite app if you use that.

I really enjoyed the climbs - a great variety of holds and types of climbs. Each route felt different and presented its own challenges. Quite a few routes with overhangs, and for the keen (like my eldest child!) an impressively large arch to do on lead - bring a 40m rope (we were told minimum length 33m). Most lines have top ropes, but there are also a number of routes left for lead. including obviously all the arch routes. There were 6 autobelays, one of which had an impressive 6 routes on one line, and a good range of climbing grades on the autobelay routes.

The grading was on the harder side when compared to centres such as The Church in Bristol, but quite frankly I don't care if I'm climbing something labelled 5c or 6b+ if its a fun climb. I would say the 5bs/5cs were like 6as in many other places (and likewise the 6b like 6c) but this in no way decreased by appreciation of the centre - I'd just recommend warming up on a lower grade than usual when you first arrive!

THE CAFE
There is a cafe upstairs that you can watch the roped area from on one side and the clip n climb on the other. The menu was fairly standard in offerings and prices - think pizzas, toasties etc. I wouldn't go just for the cafe, but I would happily have lunch there again.

OTHER BITS
There is a water fountain to refil bottles from, and sofas/beanbags to rest on between climbs.

CONCLUSION
Loved this climbing centre and will definitely visit again - wish I lived closer!

The staff are really good with the kids. Clear instructions on safety are given but in a friendly and fun way. The cafe has the perfect viewing gallery.

Uncrowded, friendly climbing centre with good range of climbs and lots of auto belays (helpful when you’re climbing as a three!)

I was part of a six group induction. The instructor was excellent; informative, supportive and friendly. Facilities were really good, it was busy but didn’t feel packed as we could always climb. After the induction we were given 30 days of free climbing to see whether we like the sport. Good value for money.
