- Stewart GSwindon, United Kingdom56 contributionsBirthday Sunday lunchWe had an amazing Sunday lunch today, the wife had fresh potato and leek soup and I had Gravlax which was thickly sliced with beautiful taste. To follow the wife had Chicken Supreme and I had Roast Beef with fresh vegetables, both dishes were delicious, fresh and good portions. The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. An excellent lunch…..Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 January 2024

Friendly staff but restaurant was very busy & service was quite slow. Would return but maybe not for a busy Sunday lunch slot.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 June 2024

Booked my wife's retirement meal for 18 people, asked to sit down at 1.15 pm , but they came back and asked us to sit down at 12.30 pm which we did, on arrival it took approx 1 hr for us to get our food first course, then approx 1/2 hr later we got our main course, we then wanted a break until we got our puddings, when we asked to order the puddings we were told we had to vacate the tables, because they were booked for the next group of people, so we asked to see the manager to sort it out, when we booked we were not told we had to vacate the tables by a certain time.
The manager tried explain that we tables were booked at 3.00 pm for the next group, we asked for the bill it came to approx £800/£900 pounds, which we did not agree with, the manager said she would give us a discount of £50, we said no and got the bill down to the figure we wanted to pay.
Do not book a large party into this golf course, service was slow and the manager was not a nice person. The manager really spoil the days celebrations.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. That being said there are many points made in your review which are factually incorrect. As our team have already spent a considerable amount of time trying to unpick your concerns and compensate you financially, we will not be commenting on this matter any further. We pride ourselves on our very high standards here and welcome many large groups, functions and special events on a regular basis with great reviews. We would suggest choosing another venue for your group in the future, as clearly we are not the right fit for your dining requirements. Kind regards, Basset Down Complex

Nothing to do with Golf its about the restaurant.
7 of us just had a Sunday Dinner, I'm happy enough to say food and the waiting staff were excellent, but thats as good as it gets.
When I querried the overall time ( of around 2 hours) for two courses and the excessive waiting times that we suffered, I was told 2 hours was the norm for such a big table?? Seven people a big table? ,I personally think not and 2 hours waiting is way to long and it ruined the overall experience for Myself and Family.
I did speak to the restaurant manager about this at the time, and was asked" what do you want me to do about it ?"
I was told the timings would be looked into, but at no point was I offered an apology, one off the staff came over to the table to further discuss but I still didn't receive an apology
I felt although discussed i was given the brush off a bit and a bit more understanding of the situation could be avoided for future customers.
I for one will not be one, and that really big group of 7 will not be booking for Christmas as this was a trial run and we learnt enough not be booking as we intended.
Its up to you , room for improvement?
Or just be prepared to wait a very long time.

This review is nothing to do with golf. This is about the restaurant. It's the first time we've eaten in the evening at Basset Down. We've been impressed with their food in the daytime so we decided to give it a try.
To start, the ambience is very pleasant with lovely views, comfortable seats.. very clean and well laid tables. Full of other diners enjoying themselves.. some a bit noisy!
Staff extremely polite, friendly and efficient.
I had the seabass. My wife had the monkfish tail from the specials menu.
I'm not an easy person to impress.. but impressed I was. The presentation and flavours of both meals was comparable to a fine dining restaurant.
I could not fault the experience in any way. Other than it being a bit noisy it was first rate dining. We now intend to make this one of our 'go to' places!
Many thanks to Subhash, Dylan, Jess, Dan, and of course Chef Sam, who by our reckoning must be on the way to Michelin star standard! - You all worked together as a great team!
Noted some other reviews not so flattering, but sensible people disregard those and speak about their own personal experience.
A gold star to all, and keep up the good work!

The course itself is a fun 9 holer. Lots of Par 4s, but TBE given limited space. Worth a play for a few spare hours.
The range in theory is fab, with TopTracer being the draw. However the numbers are wildly inaccurate (tells me I’m hitting it 15-20mph slower than on course)… certainly recalibration needed of some sort. I don’t know if it is to do with the slope you hit into or sensors etc but this certainly needs looking at!

In February we celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary at Basset Down. We had booked the Burnbake Room which had been set up beautifully for our Luncheon get together for 25 of us. The drinks service worked like clockwork and the 3 course meal was served very efficiently and the food was delicious.
All of the staff were friendly and efficient. We would like to thank Lizzie and Maria for looking after all of us so brilliantly.

I used the driving range today which was and is first rate. The restaurant looks really good but the service is terrible. I stood at the bar for about 5 minutes not knowing if that is how you arder. At times there were 4 staff behind the counter who have mastered the art of ignoring customers and avoiding any eye contact. They all look unhappy. A smile, a good morning and i will be with you in a minute -- would make you feel as if you exist. When eventually i ordered coffee it was so slow in arriving i almost had to leave. There are plenty of staff but there seems to be a lack of very basic training and management - it should be easy to fix and move towards a 5* destination

Decided to book after hearing lots of good reviews and was not disappointed. We both had roast beef which was delicious! The beef was so tender and the veg was cooked perfectly. For dessert we had warm chocolate and pecan pie, which was also delicious. Will definitely be back again soon.

What a great way to spend a day, particularly with children, or golfers. They have football golf, Paddleball courts, driving range as well as a regular golf course. The club house is recently refurbished with a restaurant over looking the property which has a huge patio for summer lunches. It’s modern and welcoming. We have only had lunch there but if the lunch menu and food is anything to go by dinners must be great. The menu is varied and updated regularly. My husband likes the chicken wings and the huge plateful of ham and eggs goes down well. I favour the goat cheese salad, although the flat bread with goat cheese is also excellent. They best chips in town are served here. Sometimes you may need to wait for a table, not that there isn’t tables just that the kitchen is too busy. No problem for us, but, if you are in a hurray best check timing beforehand.

This isn't the first occasion we've eaten here, but its thefirst time we've had brunch. As with all our previous meals, it was very tasty! I had the avocado, spinach & poached eggs on sour dough toast *the eggs were a £1.00 extra* & my husband had the full English. Both were absolutely delicious, freshly cooked to order & served with a smile!

Family of six dined on a Saturday lunch time. We had to wait 50 minutes for our meal to arrive. Very slow and obviously chef/kitchen could not cope with the busy restaurant. Staff were apologetic.
