Planet Ice Basingstoke- absolutely terrible! Filthy, extremely poor staff and management. When I asked if anyone could serve us a drink and pizza upstairs I was told no as they have no staff(strange as there were 4 members of staff hanging about the reception area!) Manager tried to walk away when I was speaking to him and had no people skills whatsoever. I asked why this this information was not specified on their website-the manager (and other staff) just shrugged their shoulders. The place was almost derelict, filthy and run down, not even fit for an animal, and after seeing the conditions-we would never of eaten here. We decided to spend our money elsewhere at Hollywood bowl instead. This place really lets down Basingstoke leisure park as a whole.

We have booked for our daughter's 10th birthday... what a mistake.

I know the place is run down, and the skates were poor condition before, but we still had fun last time... however, since seeing these recent terrible reviews, I then requested a refund. But I don't hold my hopes out... so I'm really posting this to warn others.

So we are forced to go, or lose £77. But it will be the last time we ever go here. Looks like Ozone in Bracknell, will be a cheaper and better quality experience.

Agreeing with previous review, this company is completely unethical...

We had appalling experience at Planet Ice Basingstoke. My family booked on line and then queued for nearly an hour for skates to be told they didn't have any. They refused to refund on the premises and advised us to contact head office to apply for a refund. 3 weeks later we are still waiting for the refund. When checking reviews it appears they had this problem for some time before we booked.

Why allow bookings and steal hard working peoples money when you know you can't deliver the service.

Not sure what went wrong, pre booked, travelled 30 miles to discover there was NO SKATING BOOTS AVAILABLE. No 4, 5 or 6. Had to sit and watch friends skate.
Waiting for a reply and refund!

The ice rink looks like it’s falling down, we arrived and had 10 mins on the ice only to be cleared off for the Zamboni to come onto the ice. Rental skates are awful, and not enough and my size was out, don’t think they’ve ever been sharpened. Too many people on the ice at once

Booked online, traveled almost an hour to get here, only to discover that even though I had booked both my tickets and rental hire, they had no skates available. It turns out it wasn't just me, whilst we were in the lobby I saw 5 full families complete with bookings getting the same treatment. How do you mess up something as simple as the booking system.

To make matters worse, the manager on duty, whilst admittedly trying his best to help, couldn't offer anyone a refund. The best he could offer was 'maybe a refund once I get into contact with head office, and that's on a case by case basis'.

This business failed on so many levels, how can it be run so incompetently. There were many opportunities to not have this happen: booking system with correct inventory levels, mass emails once a situation had happened to prevent disappointment, and the ability to provide immediate refunds on premise.

What a miserable failure.

I was shocked in reading the reviews but went anyway as I usually go to the hemel Hempstead one.( brilliant)
and totally agree with the reviews. badly kept and run down. staff look bored and fed up. the cafe both upstairs and down were closed to to lack of staff... I went on a bank hol. had to jse vending machine with 3 choices of bottle drink. lots of people but more than enuf space on the ice due to size. dim lighting. the toilets omg disgusting.. lady things on the floor loo roll all over floor. no mirrors. no soap. at least water to wash hands was warm. dryers worked. I was going to take photos but couldn't bring myself to. horrendous.
if u go only go there if u are passing and wana ice skate then its basic and has ice..... don't go out of ur way to go there. if do take drinks and food with you. and tissue for toilet and hand gel.. (I take everywhere anyway.)
such a shame. with love and some money spent could really be the place to be.
I reccomend hemel Hempstead planet ice after visiting here. food drink. clean toilets. a smaller rink ...half the size of Basingstoke but lovely to go to.

We visited today and what a bitter disappointment . We were a group of nine so not a cheap day out @ £12.85 per person. The ladies toilets were disgraceful to say the least..In fact bordering on a health hazard. Used tampons on the floor, blue roll instead of loo roll. I checked the cleaning rota and the last clean was in October today is the the 21st of December. The coffee shop is a joke waited for 20 minutes for someone to come and serve me. I was the only one there at the counter. We had to change our skates a few times…broken, no padding on the inside and generally bad upkeep and controls. No hand sanitizer anywhere just the employ bottles. If the establishment has a staffing problem, it should not open to the public and take the money from hard working folk just wanting a good day out. This place is not fit for purpose!

Visited on Saturday and found it run down and the same as when visited in the 90’s. Only 2 gaps to get on the ice which caused 2 very limited ice rink seating for skaters. These 2 benches were taken up by non skaters with food rubbish everywhere forcing the actual skaters to take skates off to seat in the stalls. Not convenient when you have hired a skating aid. There was only 1 person on shoe/skates desk so huge ques. Waiting over 30 minutes to get our shoes back.
1 family eating a McDonalds on the rink side & kid taking food on the ice. No staff monitoring or walking round. Tried to complain to manager but he wasn’t interested.
Won’t be visiting again after such a poor experience.
