- SamPoulton Le Fylde, United Kingdom1 contributionA fun day out3 adults and 1 teen visiting for a birthday day out. We paid online which was straightforward enough and when we arrived we browsed in the gift shop. We purchased the obligatory ‘Train drivers cap’ and looked awesome whilst wearing it! The museum section is a fantastic collection of trains, my favourite was the Royal Mail train with its Mail sorting facility. My daughter got her face painted which made her day! We all then went for a ride on the heritage train, we managed to get a compartment to ourselves which was quite nostalgic or Harry Potter-esque for the younger visitors. All the staff we interacted with were absolutely lovely, I would recommend a visit.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 April 2023
- hannah32 contributionsA lovely attractionVisited here with family during May half term. Enjoyed the train ride, museum and workshop tour. The playground was also popular - watching the trains go by as you play. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Enjoyed the 'Teddy bear's picnic' activities. Reasonably priced for a tourist attraction. Plenty of parking and a small cafe serving basic lunch options. Would recommend for young train enthusiasts!Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 June 2023
- Jaz144 contributionsAlison's Cream TeaLovely fresh homemade scones and cakes with plenty of tea or coffee to enjoy. Would be nice if made into an afternoon tea with sandwiches included. (would happily pay have payed extra) All served by pleasant staff on board a steam train. The only disappointment was the actual length of the train ride and the fact there was nothing to see apart from tree, houses and industrial sites. The entrance fee does include the small museum but would find the charge without the cream tea included to be quite expensive to visit.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2023
- berryandshaunEngland, United Kingdom232 contributionsOkWe did the Santa train last year. Had a nice time. It would just be nice to be able to get a photo with him. Instead, when he got of the train, he was rushing to get back on at the front for the next train ride. Some people managed to ask him for a photo, some didn’t.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 11 July 2023
- Philippa W19 contributionsInteresting museum and short train ride, but excellent for childrenThe staff and volunteers here were absolutely lovely and helpful. The museum area isn't the biggest but has some interesting trains and really brilliant children's activities - simple but effective. The shunting challenge (moving trucks around on tracks) was enjoyed by 6yo and adults, and 6yo loved the train carriage set up as a playroom with what felt like a full set of Thomas books. (Probably intended more for 3 and 4 year olds but we had a lovely time cuddling up and reading stories!) But the highlight of the museum was the Post Office train coach which was all accessible to go into and explore, with parcels to sort into the right pigeon holes and all the kit from when it was running. The steam train itself was beautiful and comfortable. The ride was quite short (and not terribly interesting ) but you are allowed to ride as many times as you like with your day ticket, which made up for it. The tea room was very basic but we had a nice cup of tea - I wouldn't plan to have lunch here but it definitely serves its purpose. And the loos were very clean!Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 August 2023
- Geoff. Hewitt43 contributionsHighly recommended & to be repeated.Went specifically for the Model Railway day, which was enjoyable. Enjoyed the visit, and the ride on the line. Impressed by the interior of the museum, which was well laid out and unusually clean for a heritage railway. Only minor quibble was the outside of the TPO, which might have benefitted for a quick dusting. Other than that, however, highly recommended and a visit I intend to repeat.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 September 2023

Very disappointed, not Christmassy at all for a Santa ride!
Face painter asked my son to sing a spider man song when he did was told was rubbish his 4! And I even tipped her before the rude remark to my child!
The staff on the train ignored my son every time he waved or said hi! So by time Santa came he wasn’t even bothered! Even though the Santa was nice enough being ignored numerous times I’m not surprised he didn’t care anymore.
I was not impressed by the service it was a treat with family for my son but the whole thing put a dampener on the Santa train ride due to the rudeness.
Very very sad and won’t return again will go to a bigger event that don’t ignore children or be rude!

I travelled by train to Preston and walked to the Ribble Steam museum on a sunny Good Friday. The walk took around one hour alongside the river and rails. Top and tailed steam/diesel in operation. Interesting trip especially over the swing bridge and interesting views of the marina and Preston in the distance. Impressive collection of heritage locos/wagons. Young families appear to be target audience but there is plenty for other travellers to see.

Took 3 of my grandchildren on the Santa special today . Very disappointing, no Christmas atmosphere and Santa ( looked good) only spent a couple of minutes at tops chatting to my grandchildren in our carriage. Thought for the price the boys gifts would have better, a farm set for our 6 year old was far too young for him.
I rarely give reviews and prefer not to give a negative but I did feel for £150 people should know what the experience was lacking

We attended for a steam gala day- it was brilliant. Kept a 2 and 3.5 year old entertained for hours- the museum wasn’t all “do not touch” and the ability to go up and down the line as often as you wanted was great. All volunteers friendly and lovely for toddler to see swing bridge and level crossings which he loves! Thanks and keep up the good work.

How long does the ride on the train take
quizmaster1957
preston, lancashire86 contributions
The train ride takes approximately 35 to 40 minutes. If we have one locomotive in steam, it runs around the train in the sidings to pull the train on the return. This is an hourly service starting at 11am.
If we are running two engines, as we will do at the Diesel Weekend, the ride will be around 30 minutes with a 45 minute timetable in operation.
Your day ticket allows unlimited rides.
