The Platt house and the Gallery of Costume are nice but could have been better. The displays were interesting and informative but the glass displays are very reflective and there is not way to see the back of the costumes. Simply put a mirror in the back of the display! Same thing for the special exhibit of 20's and 30's... More

Very interesting collection of historical clothing, dating back to the 1600’s. 20th century clothing wing on the ground floor appears to be shut off at present, but there’s a temporary exhibition of fab groovy 60’s wear by Mary Quant. Free entry. Bit of a way out of the city centre, but worth it if you're interested in this kind of... More

I have been to the park many times previously on visits to the in laws but it is only recently that I have been inside due to the museum being closed. It is a real hidden gem and well worth a visit. A cultural afternoon spent in the Whitworth gallery nearby and an hour in the gallery of costume (although... More

We liked this place, it's a hidden gem within the park. The kids loved seeing the different fashion styles and it was nice to do something different

As a fashion student, this was a must. It didn't disappoint. Not the best museum I've ever been to but certainly interesting. I love the history of fashion anyway so this was right up my street

The house itself was taken back to its original decor and has been carefully restored. I saw an exhibition of Schiaparelli gowns, including an outfit made for Wallis Simpson. A member of staff was very knowledgable about the collection and the displays around the house. A little cafe is open for those in need of a little refreshment.

Another free museum in Manchester. Just outside of city centre but a good bus route that droops you off right outside. Interesting permanent collection of fashion through the ages. Ladies craft group operate from here if I'm not mistaken once monthly on a Saturday. Ladies are very friendly and want to share their experiences. Don't bother with the cafe unless... More

We were hoping to see a wonderful array of costumes but unfortunately the entire 20th century section is closed for most of this year, which was extremely disappointing.

We visited as part of the Manchester Tweed Ride - and were pleasantly surprised. The staff are friendly, accommodating and not at all pushy. Contents: an eye catching chronology of garb housed in some fancy interiors, a tea room and the obligatory shop (which wasn't full of tat). The setting of Platt Hall is very atmospheric. The pair of Grayson... More

My friend & I went to visit & found it very interesting, the original costumes were a joy to see. There were also other interesting things to see like a great button collection. This isn't a large museum but well worth a visit. The only drawback when we went was the 50's & 60's costumes were not on display as... More
