Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There is a memorial to the men who fought and died in World War 1 on Manchester Piccadilly railway station.

If you want to check it out you will need to have a ticket to travel as it is past the barrier. If you head for the travellator to the through platforms it is on your right side and has a large open area around it so you can see it quite easily.

There are a number of trains to Manchester Piccadilly so it is a very busy station but if you speak to staff they should be able to point you in the right direction to find it.

Worth locating to remember the sacrifice made by these young people.

This is a replica polished granite memorial. The original was lost during rebuilding in the 1960’s and it was a nice touch to put it back a few years ago when the old records were found. You’ll need a ticket to look at it though as it’s on Platform 10.

I stopped to look at this memorial at the station, wondering if I should reach into my bag to take a photo, I found it unusual to have a war memorial in a rail station, but then... it also makes sense as this is where many men would have started their journey on the way to war...and once I started reading, it was to the railway men. As I was dragging my luggage I opted not to take a photo. Simply to stop to read it.

It records the names of 87 men of the London and North Western Railway who died serving on the British armed forces between 1914 and 1919 (from a total of 580 staff from the station who served).

I'm ashamed to say I've never noticed this memorial in all the times I've taken trains to and from Manchester. This is where Tripadvisor works best, when you interrogate it for things to do as I did recently.

The memorial replaces a bronze plaque which disappeared 50 years ago during a station renovation and commemorates the 87 railwaymen who died serving in WW1. Unveiled by Michael Portillo who as we know loves the railways.

It's a fine looking marble tribute with the names on 3 sides. Look out for it between platforms 10 and 11, not 9 as it says above.
