The whole experience was great, the staff was very friendly, the place incredible, is beautiful, well kept, clean. the light in the afternoon made the windows look spectacular. You can sit in the big chairs and get the whole feeling. The architecture is so beutiful with so many details to observe. A definite must in Manchester

What an awesome building never mind the contents. Superb to look around - take your time and poke around. Alas no admittance to the upper floor where you can get a brilliant view of the library floor. I actually found far too many "No admittance" "private" and "Staff Only" notices. Some I looked at and just dont understand some. Spoils the visit and needs some relaxation otherwise excellent

I am afraid to say that the books did not interest me. The architecture of this building is stunning and displays what was great about the craftsman of days gone by is what interested me. Buildings like this could ever be built again. Unfortunatley all the knowledge and skills have been long lost.

Fantastically atmospheric “library/mausoleum “ built by Enriqueta but husband John gets all the credit! Could spend ages wandering and soaking up the atmosphere. Had just missed a talk but have picked up programme which has interesting talks lined up. Helps to add to the history of how Manchester was created and philanthropy. Also enjoyed Portico library, art gallery and civic library.

The building is eye-catching from the outside, but the interior is just stunning. It's beautiful, with a wonderful atmosphere, and so many details to find in the architecture. And more than a little bit Hogwarts!

I have never been in a library where I have felt I I am entering a church. Entering via only can be described as enclosed cloisters. Gothic overload and in awe of a place dedicated to learning

Beautiful building. Loved all the old books. Staff were lovely and informative, when they found out I was from Australia they showed me the section where books on Australian were kept.

Had to be in Manchester for a work thing, so looked around the area I was in for something non-work I could do - and this library came up. Up it absolutely beautiful, I would recommend a visit, if you enjoy gothic architecture and historical libraries. Definitely feeds the soul.

I initially came here with the plan of studying, expecting it to just be an ordinary library that was old and looked nice, but I ended up going round all of the rooms, looking at the items on display and admiring the gorgeous architecture of the building. The gift shop was great too and had lots of cool books and stationary bits. Will definitely be going back!

Is there parking at the library? Thankyou

No. Further down you can sometimes park in the road for s charge and limited time and there are plenty of car parks in Manchester that are not too far to walk in. It’s definitely worth a visit. I have been a few times and still amazed by it all.

I am planning to bring my daughter this weekend, she loves libraries, she is 7, is there an area with children's books to sit and read once we have looked round? Thank you

Sorry I’m really not sure? It’s part of the University of Manchester, so not aimed at that age group but they are very welcoming and I would certainly recommend the venue, your daughter will be in awe! I’ve taken my to all manner of library over the years, she’s now completing an MA in Manchester

Can students come and study here or is it more of a museum?
Yvette J
Manchester, UK
Hi. We have two reading rooms and both are now areas where people doing their own study can come - you don't have to read our collections to use our reading rooms. We've listened to requests for a quiet space and hope you find the kind of space you need to help with your studies. Please ask any member of the team. Thanks. Yvette

Hi Magshiel at the moment we don't have a coffee shop. We are reviewing our service and planning to re-open it in the next few months. There are lots of places to enjoy refreshments nearby and we can advise you when you visit.

Hi, hawaayman. What would you like to know about this attraction?

Hi,
You can find a map and address on the main TripAdvisor page, or visit here the official website (no html links allowed here) on how to get to the Library.
Once inside, although I didn't find a map of the floor plan, there is a page on the official website telling you what is on each floor - select "visit us" and then "floor plans" . I remember it being very easy to find my way around. Although there is no museum per se, there are exhibitions on level 1 and also some information boards all along the Historic Reading Room.
Hope I helped.

Hi. Are the public allowed to take photos of the interior side of the building? Do we need to register or something? And also.. may I know if the library opens on next Monday 17th April 2017? Thanks!
