Manchester Cathedral has been centre stage in its city’s history for nearly 600 years. In 1421 Henry V signed a royal charter granting permission for a collegiate church to be built. In 1847 a new Manchester diocese was created and this historic church became a Cathedral. The doors are open 7 days a week and the admission is free. Do not miss one of the most interesting churches in the land at the heart of one of the most exciting cities on Earth.

Came across the Cathedral by accident whilst visiting Manchester. What a beautiful building, the stained glass is amazing along with the intricately carved new organ. We spent a very peaceful hour just wandering round taking in the history and atmosphere.

Do not expect a cathedral on the grand scale, like Winchester, Salisbury, Canterbury, or York Minster, but this is a medieval gem: particularly to be admired is the beautiful, intricate woodcarving in the choir.

Lovely place, and free to enter! Surrounded by a lot of modern buildings, so sits nicely! The organ is a marvel.

The Manchester cathedral is a friendly place, clean and well presented! Sometimes they have envents where family and children are involved, nice place to visit and the architecture is charming.

This is a very large cathedral with not much scaffolding at present, except for the tower. Most of the old windows were lost in WWII, but there are quite a few modern colourful replacements. The choir misericords are worth seeing, and are on display with...More

Called in, as I love architecture of building. Enjoyed the peace and quiet of the place, and sat for a while. There was a service on, and it was peaceful. The choir was good. All in all, if you have half an hour at least,...More
