About
Manchester Cathedral has been centre stage in its city’s history for nearly 600 years. In 1421 Henry V signed a royal charter granting permission for a collegiate church to be built. In 1847 a new Manchester diocese was created and this historic church became a Cathedral. The doors are open 7 days a week and the admission is free. Do not miss one of the most interesting churches in the land at the heart of one of the most exciting cities on Earth.

    Beautiful cathedral
This was an impromptu visit and we're very glad we visited. It is a stunning cathedral, with some nice touches and displays around for the children to look at. It has a haunting atmosphere, and we were privileged to hear an orchestra practise, they all sounded amazing! We would visit again.

    Not your 'average' cathedral
In many ways- from the lack of pews to the modern stained glass to the design of the organ, this cathedral feels quite different to what I'm used to. A really good integration of old and new with lots of interesting things to see- appreciated being handed a printed guide as we entered. I also like cathedrals you don't have to pay to visit, which never sits right with me- so top marks on that score too.

    Wonderful
The architecture was beautiful and stained-glass windows were modern. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. There were some sculptures and artworks there. Free admission. Convenient location. We delighted to admire rehearsal of the show also. Definitely worth.

    See the Choir
Came in during the Eversong choir performance, which was actually my first time witnessing a church service (I’m not Christian) as well as my first time hearing an organ being played. That was a nice experience, though tbh I wouldn’t really recommend for just visiting since there’s nothing to really see inside for tourists. There was also a lot blocked out from viewing. I did like their message of peace during the service and the church members were quite welcoming

    Holy Communion in a Cathedral
A visit to the area so thought we would pop into the Cathedral, I timed it just right to take Holy Communion which was really nice to do. This Cathedral isn’t a huge one, but it has a lot of history, lovely stained glass windows, and volunteers if you needed more information. It is free entry but please donate if you can, it costs £3k a day to run a building like this … they need all the help they can get .. if your in the area please do visit

Lovely interesting experience and it’s free entry.
Great tranquil experience in the middle of a busy Manchester. And better still, it’s FREE admission, a rarity in today’s world. Very interesting hour or so spent admiring the beautiful architecture. All in all, a gem in the heart of Manchester.

Lovely small cathedral with unique carvings
Lovely cathedral with some unique carvings. We were shown by a lovely staff gentleman the history behind the 16th century carvings by the choir stall seats. He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The talented choir were in practice during our visit which made the whole visit thoroughly enjoyable. Entrance was free.

Free entry, is so glamorous and inside the building structure has intricate cravings and majestic arches , and the organ in the middle increase enchantment of the cathedral

Undoubtedly probably a very impressive structure. However, with considerable emphasis being placed upon the need for an income to sustain it, and a willingness to turn much of the Cathedral into a venue to host a flea market, what would otherwise be majestic is reduced to a slovenly beggar.

Bijorn Again at Manchester Cathedral. Organised by Vision Events. Overpriced. Poor value for money. Band rushed through 2 x 35 min sets. Wine atrocious. Paint stripper. Charged at £24 a bottle. Come on Manchester Cathedral you can do better than this surely??!!
