Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went to the Whitworth expecting to see art from their extensive collection of pictures by Blake, Rembrandt, Hogarth, Turner, Picasso etc etc. I was met by many empty walls and walls showing material of very limited interest. Why can’t we see what’s in your 60,000 painting collection?

Huge cavern like rooms which display interesting art and objects in a spacious fashion. Some made me think.
Enjoyed the shared fayre food related exhibition but could have done with a bit of description to accompany a few of the more enigmatic works.
First rate loose leaf tea in cafe.
All the huge collection of art acquired last century is now in storage as it was donated by privilaged white men (their words). You have to make an appointment to view.

I thought the flow was wonderful. I particularly like 'The Circle and the square exhibition. The music of worship and community, coexistence and cooperation dynamic was incredibly moving.
I also enjoyed the cafe out on the terrace overlooking the park. The food was a high standard and the service very friendly. I would recommend it highly.
On a footnote that often gets overlooked in reviews, the toilets were very clean and hygienic. Thumbs up all round.

Walked down to the Whitworth from the centre and that in itself was a nice experience.
Gallery staff were very welcoming and friendly.
The exhibitions and layout were very interesting and not crowded.
It’s a rabbit warren of a place but in a fun way, you don’t feel like you are being shepherded around.
Gardens are lovely and well looked after.
I would return if I was in Manchester again.

Pleasant modern gallery over a couple of floors. Nice cafe with an interesting and different menu. Prices quite good. Found a car park just up the road, £1/hr.

Loved every bit of it. The exhibition was very well displayed and very interesting. The building is quite superb now it has been extended and modernised (I havent been for some time !) The staff gave a great greeting and were very welcoming. The cafe is superb. A brilliant space all new superbly laid out and the food and drink very good. Outside the art park is very nice. A brilliant visit.

Not really impressed with our visit today. I would say it might be a disappointment to many who do visit. The cafe was overpriced and some of the staff uptight and unfriendly.

Unfortunately Lonely Planet has not updated their listing and lauded the Whitworth's watercolor collection. They had two small artworks on display with a note that light is bad for watercolors and the museum is only displaying a few in rotation. The rest of the museum exhibits were forgettable, with quite a bit of simplistic and silly woke jargon. There's an Edvard Munch hiding in the Still Parents exhibit, some fun wallpapers, and the recycled Briarfield Mill filmed performance was nice. But the museum seems mostly to function as a children's play space - good for families perhaps. Go to the Manchester Art Gallery instead.

I LOVED this place. Maybe we just got lucky with the exhibitions that were there at the time but we could have easily spent more than the hour that we had to spare. I am not normally into art that much but there were so many very different and unique exhibitions at Whitworth, I really loved it.

This museum is set near a large park. It has a big modern extension behind a classic facade. Display on Still Parents quite moving (experience of child loss), but also reeat award winning display of schoolchildren's art.

Where can I find a floorplan which tells me what is on display? Can't find one on the website. 'Search the collection' doesn't reveal what's on display and what isn't. I'll have 2 hours free in Manchester and want to see 18th & 19th century British art. The Whitworth reputedly has a lot, but is it on the walls? Reviews suggest not.
