About
Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art is leading the UK in exploring Chinese contemporary culture. We aim to make Chinese contemporary art and visual culture accessible to everyone through our exhibitions, events, shop, artist residencies, festivals, engagement programmes and research forums. Our exhibitions are set across intimate gallery spaces, where visitors get up close and personal with the artworks on display. We have a proud 30-year history of UK ‘first’ solo exhibitions, featuring exceptional emerging artists that go on to achieve international acclaim. Our unique events programme explores different aspects of our exhibitions and includes practical workshops, film screenings, informal talks and performances. Our shop reflects our interest in contemporary Chinese culture and stocks a range of products, offering something unique for everyone. You can find CFCCA in the heart of Manchester’s creative Northern Quarter and visit our free exhibitions Tuesday-Sunday, 10am-5pm.

I spent a lovely hour in this museum with the china-internet-ugly exhibition. The descriptions were helpful and enabled me to understand what the artist was aiming for and the pieces make you think. The attendant was polite and helpful. A small gift shop also there with some nice gifts.

A good place to pop into when visiting Manchester.

It was a really interesting museum however the number of exhibitions was very limited. Quite a small museum although the exhibitions themselves where very interesting. Definitely worth a visit!

We needed to pass some time before going to the nearby concert at the Chetham Music School. I read the reviews on this place so we called in and didn’t regret it. It only has two galleries but the exhibits were very interesting. They have a cute shop selling unusual gifts with a Chinese theme. Good clean toilets. I would call in again to see the next exhibitions

This was a lovely little visit whilst in the NQ, enjoying an acid trip with the kids. The exhibitions were very colourful and the staff were very helpful when I got stuck in the toilets thinking that I'd found a secret exhibition area.

This place is bit of a hidden gem, located in the heart of the Northern Quarter. Really well curated gallery with a good variety of artwork. Always something new to see when I pop in on my lunch break every couple of months. Great gift shop as well!

Once you've located it, it usually delivers with a varied programme of up to the minute exhibitions featuring Chinese artists from China and the UK. There is also a residency space. Nice gift items as well.

I was doing shopping in Arndale Centre and this museum is literally behind it. The exhibition - 'Aquatopia' is so inspiring and made me think about the way I use water and how can I make a change. They focus on the theme with great details and information. The shop is great too, with lovely prints from artists. The size of the museum is actually perfect, I spent like 30 minutes there. A place worth checking out when you are in Manchester!
