I had some free time in Manchester while waiting for my coach to London so popped in here. It's in the centre of Manchester in a grand old building and it's free! They have old masters and a Greystone Perry pot! Loads of great pictures and an exhibition of fantastic watercolours from Manchesters Monet, well worth seeing. I didn't see... More

Should have come to this gallery much earlier. Should have allocated more than 2 hours in this place. Heaps of exhibits - will need to plan a full 3+hours just to get through majority. Pity about the cafe though - quite ho hum.

We visited to see the exhibition of photographs but we also took in the other galleries and saw many works of art which were very interesting.

Its not a surprise to find that the Manchester Art Gallery has some fascinating exhibits and you would expect to see works by Lowry and other local artists. What is a surprise for the first time visitor is how beautifully they are displayed, Each room, which covers a different period, is sensitivelt lit and the information about each painting is... Spent two afternoon spells here taking in 3 floors of exceptional exhibitions particular the Strange & Familiar exhib and the Lowry/Valette room. Tastefully displayed, well organised and pleasantly busy, a really good way to spent a couple of afternoons so its five stars, I was tempted to take one off for the cafe when me and my partner popped in... We spent an enjoyable couple of hours in this gallery. Three floors of paintings spanning centuries. Many different styles so something for everyone.

For several years I have wanted to go to Manchester to see the Pre-Raphaelite paintings at the Art Gallery. We got there as soon as it opened in the morning. Gosh what a thrill to wander around. My friends headed for a photography exhibit and I went straight to the paintings. A big surprise was the size of the gorgeous... More
