Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very nice garden, but what a palaver to arrange a visit. Having to book our tickets several weeks in advance really took the edge off the experience - as did the fact that we were only allowed to spend a limited time in the garden itself.

Isn't the whole point of a green space in the heart of the city that it should be available to visit on the spur of the moment?

As the site of the Mancunium Fort from Roman occupation times, its heritage value is undimmed. In around 79 CE the Fort was constructed as one of an array of defensive battlements.

Following Roman times Christian worship has evidence of being present. Many centuries later the industrial age arrived and the rail viaducts are evidence of the transformation heralded by this.

Modern high-rise edifices are now to be seen around, so changes continue without halt.

This is a fabulous place to spend some time especially when the weather is nice. From the cobbled streets to the canals to the Roman ruins there’s lots to see and you see something new every time you go there.

An added bonus is that there are some of Manchester‘s best pubs and restaurants very nearby so no excuse not to be fed and watered. There is a fair amount of paid parking in the area and decent public transport links as well by tram or train or bus.

We visited on the spur of the moment and were able to enter without pre-booked tickets ... as it was not overly busy. Fascinating work in progress. The viaduct garden is already a lovely tranquil oasis 'in the sky' with canals and Roman gardens nearby.

For those of us who have known Manchester for 20 years this place is a pleasant surprise. It is a vast extension where there are from Roman sites to old warehouses of the Industrial Revolution, along with canals and green areas. All this makes a pleasant place to walk or do various activities.

It can be accessed by bus, tram or train, although you can also walk as it is not far from the center of Manchester. Without a doubt it is one of my favorite places in the city.

Me and my wife visited today as we had not been to Castlefield in a long time. We walked along the canal path, some lovely canal barges and some not so good, plenty of little bridge's everywhere and also plenty of pubs. I can imagine it is lovely in the summer. There is old buildings that have been renovated and gives this area a nice charm. Will definitely be back in the summer to try one of the pubs.

Came to see the roman fort - felt a bit disappointed with the state of everything being literally quite abandoned. There is a good amount of information around but a little bit more of love would bring the place to live. Plus, I wouldn't come around here at night.

We visited this area, after seeing an article on the regeneration of the viaduct. So glad we did. We wasnt able to book so turned hoping to be able to visit the viaduct. We were lucky as it waa very quiet. The area is amazing and will be fantastic in years to come. So nice that places are embracing their heritage and finding new uses for it rather than demolishing it. There is also a pleasnt walk around the canal with cafes dotted around

While parts of the canal are dirty, the area remains peaceful and offers lovely views. The colorful boats and swimming ducks add to the charm. I visited on a sunny day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Decided on a last minute visit here when I saw it advertised on the National Trust site.
It is free to visit, which is always good, and provides a pleasant couple of hours. Weather was good on our visit which was a bonus but either way it definitely worth a visit.
Great to see Victorian architecture and engineering up close.
