Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Called into this park this Sunday. Haven't been here since I was a teenager. There were lots of people about walking and exercising there dogs. Called to the cafe and got 2 coffees for £4. The lake isn't big and we quickly walked around it. Nice park.

This is a fantastic park. It's huge, it features plenty of woodland for walking and exploring. There's a decent sized playground, fields for sports, a cafe and a pond. It should be a great family day out.

Sadly despite all that this park offers it's hugely let down by it's surroundings and some of the people who live there.

Moston is a high crime area. Notorious in Manchester and my experience of this park hasn't changed my own view of that.

On several visits here I've seen thugs on motorbikes riding at speed through the park, people smashing glass bottles in the children's play area, large vicious dogs being fought on the grass and drugs being smoked in the woods.

A lot of the parents that use this park also seem to drink a lot and swearing at children at the top of their voices isn't uncommon.

You may think I'm exaggerating but it really is this bad.

It's a huge shame because this park could be perfect. It's close proximity to heaton park offers it as an alternative but it's let down by thugs. Definitely not suitable for small children or family days out because of this.

I have walked my dog in this park every day for the last 5 years and have not yet witnessed one crime. I think the earlier reviewer must have had a remarkably unlucky run to have seen so much devastation. Either that or read a newspaper report and formed a distorted opinion of this wonderful park.

Nice to see park is pucking up around Charles town entrance. Could do with same along Rochdale road though it looks very tired there. Cafe around lake much improved. Would also feel safer with wardens around. Vast area though and peaceful stroll around can be. had..but yes in need of wardens especially if one is alone.

I have known this park since I was 6 years old, I'm now 54. I don't think there's a path or a patch of grass I have not walked on, as a kid in the late 60s it was the swings and slides that my parents would take me and my siblings to, as a teen in the 70s it was the fairground, pets corner, angel hill, the boating lake, and a hideaway while playing truant from school, in the 80s it was walks with girlfriends, walks by myself, a place I could be by myself, in the 90s I fished the lakes, took my own kids to the swings and slides, bored them with my childhood adventure stories, and that carried on until I moved to Norwich a few years ago, its a park full of mysterious little legendary creatures called Boggarts that hide behind trees as its getting dark, then come out into the open when its completely dark and have adventures of their own, they are said to stand about four foot tall and love to have fun, and are harmless, a bit like Hobbits, there's been one murder and a couple of suicides in the Clough in the last 48 years that I've known the place, but otherwise its a safe and pleasant place to go, one of the very best parks in Manchester. There's a special built sports area, two lakes, sadly the boats are no longer there, but the lakes are full of wildlife and a bag of bread only lasts a minute when feedind the birds, the pets corner and cafe are long gone but there's a cafe at the lake, its just a great park.

My great aunt ran the tea rooms in the 1950's and as a child it seemed I was never out of the place, so I feel I am qualified to recommend the Clough to anyone. It has always been a green oasis in the Moston/Blackley area and well worth a wander round.

I visited the park in April 2014 with my wife & a friend
We didn't explore the park in full but had a wander around the lakes & visited the lakeside cafe which is now run by FC United of Manchester's very own Steve Bennett (aka 'Swampy')
He made us feel very welcome & obviously has great pride in the venture that he has undertaken there. He has big plans for the place & if the results matches his enthusiasm then we can't wait to go back
The cafe serves good food at a very reasonable price, & on a sunny day it would be hard to beat the location

a lovely stroll round the lake and the best cup of tea and bacon butty seated in a sheltered area by the cafe and full view of a lovely lake . very friendly people come here and dogs are very welcome . the cafe is excellent and wonderful staff to serve you , it is very good to walk round the lake even with a wheel chair or if you have a disabled scooter . it is very flat and not too big a lake.

i have always loved this park but i have to say at the moment i would wait at least until the cafe is up and running again, the poor canada geese are dying because the water is so polluted and the cafe needs some work to make it more sound under the outdoor cover adjacent the cafe. , i hope the council spend on this wonderful place . but at the moment of writing this review i would not recommend this place very much , i was sad to see a canada goose struggling to keep its head out of the water . i will update again if i see any improvements

Don't mind the Daily Mail reader's review rating Boggart Hole Clough as terrible, sounds like the last days of Sodom and Gomorrah turned out just for them ;-)

Lovely park, lovely day out, a great green space in our wonderful city
