- Lynn GGrayling, Michigan53 contributionsGreat History LessonGreat , knowledge volunteers that made this tour memorable. Only open on Tuesday now, so needed to plan around that. Walking distance from Manchester City Center. Free entrance, donation accepted.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 September 2023
- Adrian DLondon, United Kingdom18 contributionsMore to this museum than you'd thinkThis is a fascinating museum which is much larger than it looks, as the footprint is many times deeper than it is wide. The collections are comprehensive and give some interesting insights into policing in Manchester and the social history of Manchester more widely. The all volunteer staff (many are retired officers of civilian personnel) are helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend a visit. Please however note the restricted opening hours. Tuesdays only except in school half term, when it's also open on Thursdays.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 November 2023
- heletron5 contributionsReally interesting place to visitLoved this museum! Really interesting and great as a lot if it is local history. I wasn't aware of its existence up until a few years ago. Hands down, I would rate this above Manchester’s two main museums (MOSI and Manchester Museum). It may not be as big, but had a lot more to offer. The staff are really welcoming and full of knowledge. Will go back again, so I have longer to browse, as it closes at 3:30pm and not 4pm as Google says. If you're visiting Manchester as a tourist, I'd make this a must see as it may be easy to miss. It's also only open on a Tuesday and an be busy during school holidays.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 February 2024

We were warmly welcomed by Mike and really appreciated all the information and experience that was shared with us by Ian - these 2 deserve a lot of recognition! The two ladies were great. Although it was OK for a couple of hours free, we would have liked more time to look around and read the information boards. It was also quite boring for our 12 year old as it is mostly catered for the younger children.

Been wanting to visit for ages, though it’s never open (literally opens once in a blue moon) but today finally got to see it.
It was good, but not a great deal really to view and do (in comparison to other museums) from the outside I expected it to over a couple of storeys but all on ground floor.
Knowledge of the retired officers (now volunteers) is second to none and it’s obvious they are passionate about it.
All in possible in for two hours.
Amenities- toilets on site but no cafe and it is free to get in though I do feel they could charge for this and it might make it possible to open on more days (Greater Manchester Fire service museum in Rochdale is a good example)

Excellent fun knowledgeable advice and information provided by Katie. Been twice this week with 10 younger persons aged 9-14. Was extremely helpful for the future of these young persons. Cannot recommend this enough. Absolutely invaluable for these kids futures. Thank you and see you soon.

We had a wonderful day out at the museum over half term. We'd never been there before, and, to be honest, I didn't even know it was there. For a small museum it's extremely well stocked. I was surprised by the range of collections, which were brought to life by the volunteer staff, who were attentive and happy to add a bit of colour to the exhibits. We got to see a play trial, which was done in a really creative way. Again, staff were on hand to add that extra touch to your experience, telling us that the entirety of the courtroom had been salvaged from another prison. The volunteers in the custody suite were the highlight of my experience, and my daughter loved playing the jury during the trial. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a free, educational and fun day out!

Only just discovered this place. You need to pre book ( probably due to Covid).
We were greeted at the entrance by a very informatative man. Its packed with interesting stuff, and all the staff were very knowledgeable. We even found out some info about my husbands relative who was a policeman in the area 100 years ago.
Also, it's free , although you can make a donation if you wish. A nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Residents and staff visited an arranged tour of this museum. Kate, our tour guide, was fantastic, helpful, and very patient, so a big thank you to her. Very interesting tour, lots information and all our questions answered about the polive force. Our residents, who have care needs, really enjoyed it and got involved in our mock court proceedings. A brilliant project and well worth visiting. Thank you again Kate.

All staff were so friendly and informative about the museum. such a good museum and well worth a trip!
They all knew so much and spoke in a lot of Detail. The checking desk, cells and court rooms are must sees!
I would have liked to have spent more time here but squeezed it in before I went of to an event!

Not sure.. when I went it was quite quiet and I seem to remember that they were showing people handcuffs and truncheons and stuff. I think the answer is yes provided you don't go in the height of the holidays when they may be too stretched to give everyone individual attention
