Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great music but the worst service imaginable. After approaching the bar we were asked to sit and table service would take place. After 30 minutes we still had no service and others were approaching the bar and being served.

One of my regular go-tos in Manchester, a little gem of a place the likes of which are few and far between these days. A great selection of cask beers and spirits to suit every taste behind the bar.

The digital jukebox is amazing, such a huge variety of music (with a rock and metal bias, but not completely limited to those genres) and I am guilty of spending many a penny on that!

The staff are really great, very friendly and talkative and do a great job of keeping the bar moving whilst keeping the pub nice and clean too.

Oh, and the hand-stretched pizza that is made fresh on site is really good too!

Been drinking at The Salisbury for many years now and realise I've never actually posted on here, it's about time I think.

Popped in on Saturday afternoon for some pre drinks, as we were off to Meshuggah in the evening. Ended up having a fantastic time, staying all afternoon and back after the gig too!

We had a couple Pizzas whilst we were here, which we didn't know we could claim a discount on with their gig goers scheme. 25% off I believe! What a great offer that is. On top of the normal discount on our drinks.

By far the best pre-gig, rocking pub in Manchester!!!

The atmosphere was great, fantastic service - all the staff running around being friendly as always, making time to say hello and have a little chat, discounts and another awesome night out!

See you Tuesday for Queen!

Just got home from a couple of nights in Manchester and was thrilled to find this little pub literally 100 yards from my hotel (Holiday Inn next to Oxford Road station).
Great little pub, really friendly staff, a decent selection of ale on tap and great rock music playing in the background, everything from Pink Floyd, Queen & Pearl Jam to Trivium & Behemoth (just a little too quietly for my tatse lol). This was my first trip to a pub since Covid lockdown and everything looked perfectly safe, everybody socially distancing and bar staff taking orders and delivering drinks to you table. Can't really fault the place, I would say they could turn the music up a bit but that's just my preference. Next time I'm back in Manchester I'd book the same hotel again purely to have The Salisbury right next door!

Been coming to this bar on and off since way back in 1996 when going to gigs and Jillys Rock World (RIP). Shocked to see they now discriminate against cash payers and was not able to get a drink.
Needless to say I will not be visiting ever again, you are much better off at Grand Central and dare I say it Wetherspoons (where nobody batted an eyelid on sight of my large nose bar and they certainly didn't turn down my cash).
Sort it out!

Hi Martin, We do not discriminate here, all are welcome. As you've pointed out, we are one of several cashless bars in Manchester, and have been for a number of years now. We're sorry you've decided to give us the lowest rating possible for this, and hope you rethink your decision to never return. Regards, Team Salisbury

Been coming here for years but never written a review.
This place truly is my second home- always such a warm welcome, friendly patrons, excellent atmosphere, perfectly kept beer and most importantly fantastic staff.

Particular shout out to Leah who is efficient, friendly and goes out of her way to make sure me and my friends are looked after.

Such a great place that my parents don't consider a visit to Manchester complete if I don't take them here for a pint or two!

Terrific little pub, warm, welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, really friendly staff, pizza most evenings before 9pm. The line up of cask ales is marvellous, and the digital jukebox offers as wide a choice as you would find on Spotify - although the punters stick to the pub tradition of “both types of music: ‘heavy’ and ‘rock’” Only small gripe might be that the pool space is a little cramped. That small detail aside, possibly the best pub in Manchester if the music is to your taste.

Popped in last night for a few drinks before an event. Ordered a punk IPA from keg. Took it to the table and it was flat so brought it back to the bar. Conversation went as follows:

Me: Hi, this is actually flat, would you mind changing it
Bartender: IPAs are generally flat
Me: I don't think it's supposed to be
Bartender: My mate (points to man sat at bar) is drinking it and his is fine
Me: I drink Punk quite a bit and it's never usually like this
Bartender: Well if I get you another it'll be the same
Me: I know.. so can I change it to something else please
Bartender: Yeh but you'll have to pay for it
Me: Right okay never mind

20 mins later, leaving the bar, my friend takes my full glass back to the bar with our empties.

Him: That beer is flat mate
Bartender: All IPAs are flat, that's how they are
Him: *silence*

1. If someone brings a drink back because it's flat, don't be rude. I don't care if your mate is drinking it - I'd much rather it be right and drink it then have to go through the hassle of this conversation.

2. All IPAs are not flat. Cask ones are flatter, but a keg is literally designed to keep the fizz in.

If you're going to hire people to work behind a bar, please check they have a basic understanding of what they're serving or put them through training if they don't. That bartender made me feel completely awkward and we'd have happily stayed longer had it not been for his attitude towards me bringing my drink back.

Thank you for your review. I’m disappointed that your complaint was dealt with in this manner. I would have expected your drink to be exchanged right away, no questions asked. You should not have had to pay to swap your drink. On this occasion we were not helpful enough and service fell short of our usual high standards. If you could contact me via matt@thesalisbury.co.uk I would like the chance to discuss this further, and put things right for you and your friends as soon as possible. Kind regards, Matt

The Salisbury is a fairly large part of my personal drinking culture and its always a safe space for me. Eddie Masterson is always there to say hi and have a chat and that’s just one of the reasons I come back along side the pizzas, music and beers. I’d recommend this pub mainly to rockers that want a decent pint and some good conversation, cheers!

Me and my partner went for a pizza and a few drinks. It was great had a good laugh with Eddie behind the bar and my partner had a great time listening to the music he put on the duke box. All the staff are really friendly and nice to chat to. Definitely worth a visit.
