About
At Manchester Wine School our motto is “Helping Manchester drink better wine.” Our aim is to inspire and educate, and we run dozens of courses each year catering for anyone and everyone from absolute beginner to seasoned professional. We also offer WSET courses, which as well as being prerequisites for many in the hospitality industry are also popular for wine enthusiasts who enjoy taking a structured approach to their wine studies. These are held in Manchester city centre, and we also offer online courses which you can undertake in the comfort of your own home.
The school is owned by award-winning wine writer Simon Woods. Simon and the expert team love talking about wine in an interesting and informal way. Whether you are a complete beginner or a long-term wine lover looking to spruce up your knowledge, we offer an enthusiastic welcome to our wine tasting events and masterclasses.

I had a brilliant experience on the face-to-face classroom experience of the WSET level 1 award in wines at the Manchester Wine School. I found it valuable, insightful, and an inclusive experience. Highly knowledgeable educator, who was encouraging, engaging, passionate and approachable. I passed my level 1 exam, have since decided to attend some wine-tasting events held by Manchester Wine School, and will be booking on the level 2 award in 2024. Highly recommended. Good value for money.

Hitting middle age [57] is never easy, but i found doing the wset level 2 the perfect pick me up. The instructor is so upbeat and knowledgable, making it an absolute pleasure to learn. I am not in the industry, just have the odd bottle of wine, so was a little bit intimidated until i got to class where richard put me at ease straight away. I learned so much in a relaxed atmosphere, i enjoyed it so much that i am going to take it to level 3.
If you are considering doing level one or two I would say to do it, you will get so much more out of your glass of wine.

I was gifted the 8 week round the world wine course and loved every minute of it. Every week we learnt about a new region (France, Italy, South America, Germany, Australia etc) and tasted 6-7 wines with snacks. It was very informative, fun and made me want to dive even further into the world of wines. We had 4 host - Phil, Jack, Kelly and Simon, all of which were brilliant, patient, friendly and a fountain of experience of knowledge. Highly recommend doing one of the events and courses here as you won't regret it - I've already book myself into more!

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day doing the one-day WSET level 1 wines course with Jason as the tutor. Jason's a real fount of knowledge when it comes to wines, his passion and enthusiasm really shine through, sharing both his academic knowledge and also anecdotes about his experiences visiting different places, tasting a very wide variety of wines. The course materials were more than sufficient and gave us a lot to learn on the day, but Jason brought the learning to life, talking us through the tasting experience, which was fascinating - and delicious! It was quite a bit to take in, considering the exam was at the end of the day, but it's a multiple choice exam, so it's not too daunting, and fingers crossed I hope to have passed! Will definitely be back for some of the tasting events, and perhaps the level 2 course.

Fantastic day at the Manchester Wine school.
I attended the WSET Level 1 course in Manchester which was led by Jason.
Jason made the day easy going and light-hearted, mind you he did show his sterner side when the exam arrived in the afternoon.
All in all this was a fantastic experience and a great insight into the world of wine.
I will have no hesitations in booking future courses with Manchester Wine School.

Jason was such a good tutor from start to finish with my WSET 2. He made the experience unforgettable and was so thorough in his knowledge of all things wine. Highly recommend.

Another great night at the wine school. This time did the reds and cheeses. Great evening led by Phil. Nice selection of wines and great cheeses. Really enjoyed ourselves. We will definitely be back.
