Wasn’t quite sure about this museum, but we’re stuck for something to do for a few hours in Colmar so we came here. Very pleased that we did because it’s a very good museum with a wide range of exhibits. Slightly confusing layout, though. Has one of only 3 tapestry copies of Guernica, and a large collection of religious art, including the stunning Isenheim altarpiece. Helpful and friendly staff too.

    Pleasant surprise!
Beautiful museum space converted from a 13th century convent. The exhibition rooms run in a square, with a beautiful garden in the middle. Very unique and serene. The contents are mainly medieval religious art, with the crowning jewel being the Isenheim Altar. An absolute must.

The museum in located in a 13th century Dominican sisters' convent. The most poplar piece is the famous Issenheim Altarpiece. It did not disappoint. The museum covers near 7,000 years of history beginning in prehistoric times. For a small city, this museum was impressive.

Medieval art you'd expect but also a nice variety of other art.
This is a moderately sized museum, meaning that it is not so huge that Museum Fatigue sets in. You can do a good tour of the exhibits in about 2 hours. The building itself is quite beautiful. The exhibits are arranged is a strange manner separated over 3 floors but they are still easy enough to navigate. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of art on display.

Interesting museum that covered a lot of different types of art and archiology. My favourite areas ere the cloisters and the screen church paintings.

Good small museum, but struggles by having multiple unrelated themes. Probably half of the museum is pre-1500 religious art, which would be a fine theme. But there's an archeology section downstairs which goes into the Paleolithic era and roman era, then a modern art section upstairs. It's tough to follow.

But you're not there for any of that anyhow. You're there for the issenheim altarpiece. It has the main chapel all to itself, and it's impressive and recently restored, so it really shines. It's worth the entry fee for this.

I wouldn't come to colmar for this, but it's good when in town

Had a mid morning visit on Easter weekend. Even though the city was busy, the museum wasn’t. It was moving since many of the pieces envoked the weekend we visited.

The Isenheim altar is worth it by itself, but there are many pieces worthy of examination. The woodcarving is excellent.

If you don’t speak French, take the audio guide.

The Unterlinden museum, which is probably most famous for its Isenheim Altar piece, has been remarkably modernized by Herzog & de Meuronand today stands as beuatifully as ever in the middle of Colmar, ready to display its remarkable medieval art collection. While storied pieces make up for the most famous displays are relevant works of contemporary art also available, making this a must see sight in the city.
