We were walking from the train station to the center of town (great signage to show the way) and we came across this statue, Around the area there was a water play place - where water shoots up from the ground and kids can play in them on warm days. I didn't know who the General was, but i was... More

We had a lovely time in this beautiful area, so many happy children squealing with delight in the fountains. The gorgeous carrousel close by. Simply lovely!!

This bronze statue is dedicated to General Jean Rapp (1771-1821), who was born in Colmar, and is located at the far end of the municipal Champ de Mars Park in Colmar. It was the first public monument made by local sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi at the age of 20 and was initially exhibited on the Champs Elysees in Paris during... More

A very informal atmosphere, park, fountain, children running through the water and laughter. This is wat summer is about. Old Rapp would be happy if he knew.

You probably will pass by this place if you are coming from Colmar Centrale towards the old town. Just dropped by for some shots and moved on to old town shortly.

Many places to sit and people watch A merry go round , Walter fountains and children playing. We wanted to picnic here but ran out of time.

The statue dominates a rather arid paved square (less arid if the fountains are playing), and it is easy to pass it by and walk on to the Champ de Mars, an attractive but smallish shady park. Its main virtue is in drawing one's attention to General Rapp - who was he and what did he do for Alsace? Thought... More

This is an interesting statue, mainly because of the confident stride the General is taking. Parking is both convenient (located underneath) and reasonable. It is where we started each day in Colmar, and I enjoyed viewing this on each occasion.

Jean Rapp was born in Colmar. And the location named like him was a military ground, who became later on a public park, which it is still now, and under need the park you have a great underground parking place. It was here that we had parked our car to visit the Old Town of Colmar. From this parking everything... More
