Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It’s a magnificent edifice just beyond the canal crossing. A fabulous façade in light and darker stone is gorgeous. Neoclassical in styling its rotunda is fronted by six Ionic columns.

Completed in 1821 it was destroyed in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian war. But was faithfully reconstructed in 1873.

You can enjoy the past of the time without taking the beauty of the monuments. The music is an important art in France and in the Opera du Rhin you can listen amazing pieces

Great that even Strasbourg has its restaured Opera building, but some more Opera and concerts would be great too.

I wish I could comment on the opera house but I can’t: my review is of their online booking system, which has discouraged me from attending. It seems to be impossible to book a specific seat - the system only allows you to book in a specific bank of seats, so you have no clear idea of what your view will be like.

I contacted the box office about this and they replied that I was welcome to phone them up and book specific seats that way. As I have this misfortune to live in britain, this would not be the easiest option - and why should we have to ring up the box office in 2024?

Shockingly bad customer service and awkward website makes htis a non-starter for me.

The bulding is amazing! If you are interested in Architecture do not miss it! When we entered ai asked a women (around 50 years old) wether we can see the inside of the building or wether there is a performance or concert that night so I can buy some tickets. Se replied no no to all my question without giving me any attention! To me that is unacceptable beacause my intetion was to give them my money! It did not wort such a misbehave! Never ever there!

We have attended on e of the best opera performances we have ever attended. The Theater is small and cosy with very good acoustics and the performance of "Farnace" a revelation. Excellent performance from the Koncerto Kohln impeccably conducted by the young but confident Greek conductor Petrou. The staging by Lucinda Shields was inspiring and the introduction of dancing sequences, although not consistent with the original version, was well integrated.

Actually we wanted to visit the Opera House, but there was no performance and even no visit possible. The outside view with its columns is good.

conduct the following experiment: take a little chair with a very upright back and little depth and position it in front of a wall with a space of 46 cm between the wall and the back rest.

Then you have the real dimensions of the seating arrangements at the third circle of the opera! Before you proceed to your booking, also consider that if you have a seat in the back rows of this circle you can only see the back end of the stage-and much of "La Traviata" takes place front stage.

A friend and fellow visitor, himself a former theatre director, told me that among the actors the upper circles in Strasbourg have a nickname: The Chicken Coop. There, unscrupulous directors put the 'claque', people who would pre-condition the audience with their enthusiastic applause, an early form of spin-doctoring therefore; I could see the logic of it but regret at the same time that free range chicken keeping had not caught on in the Strasbourg Opéra just yet!

My advice therefore: unlike progress in Dante's "Inferno" the circles become less infernal the lower you get. Lash out on a box, bring your own Moët et Chandon, and compared to the prices in the foyer during the interval most of the extra expense is recouped!

I loved the sound of the Opera, orchestra and cast were great, and I was told by luckier members of our group with a box that visually it was more than acceptable as well........
