Interesting to learn that one section is devoted to Catholic worship while Protestants have the other area. An admirable arrangement.

All within a remarkable edifice with a lengthy history. Grand stonework in light red brown hues is most impressive.

Stained glass windows resulted in illuminating light that was the only brightness. Much artwork is throughout including a fine sequence behind the altar depicting the Passion of Christ

If you visit Strasbourg obviously you'll want to see Notre Dame cathedral and yes that's awesome, but do yourself a favor and visit Saint Pierre LE VIEUX (not le jeune which is different). SPLV is not only filled with great architecture, statuary, stained glass, etc, etc but it's also much less crowded then ND. You can actually see some amazing sights here and get REALLY CLOSE to them (much closer than in ND). I got some awesome pics here that I couldn't get in ND because of the distance and the poor lighting there. Yes ND is great, but SPLV is quiet and you can meditate here AND get great pics too. Do not miss this one.

Visited on a Sunday, late afternoon in mid October. The inside was beautiful. One thing that caught our eye was that some of the stained glass windows had individual panels that opened. But from the outside looking in, you could not have known. Worth a look.

I was there many years ago long before the range of calendar dates suitable for indicating the time of my visit were made available for completing this review. It was during my first extended tour of eastern France and I wanted to see the museum of contemporary art and the museum of Alsatian art. But there was a curiosity for visiting this church. Naturally the large cathedral did attract me to the city in the first place. I found it accident by wandering through the streets and following my map. Nothing more complicated than that. If you like church architectural design then you should see this place. Go inside but to not wander around munching on two ham sandwiches or drinking a milk shake. Be respectful. Do not bring your pet dog either. The center of the old city is still a wonderful place to explore. It was close to the river. Museum of contemporary art was not too far away. I liked going to Petite France. Pay attention to the design of the tower and the interior. Well worth my time.

Interesting church at the beginning of Grand Rue and Rue du 22 Novembre. Reputed to have been built on the site of Strasbourg's first church, what makes this church even more interesting is it is the site of both Catholic and Protestant churches and apparently this arrangement was ordered by Louis XIV in 1683. The Catholic then built an entirely new church on the choir side of the old church.

Don't miss out this church. If you are coming from Gare towards the old city, you would bump into this church first.

When I visited Old Saint Peter's Church, I was not aware of the history, or the fact that it is actual two sanctuaries, sharing a common wall like a set of conjoined twins. The Catholic section of the church is the more beautiful half, very high-end in appearance with stained glass windows and made out of that brown Strasbourg sandstone like the cathedral and other churches. While I was there, the day's Vesper service began, with a bunch of women singing the psalms and so forth beautifully, accompanied by the priest. The latter used a microphone, which I found a bit chauvinist and controlling - the women knew the music well, and sang with a lovely free rhythm, while he was very stilted and dictating the pacing since his voice was the loudest.

I did not see it from the inside, but the Lutheran section I gather is more austere, with a pointed roof, two spires and a muted stucco exterior. The latter also carries several very macabre-looking epitaphs, complete with skulls and so forth.

Our visit to Strasbourg was not focused on excursions to the wine and castles country side. The purpose of the visit was to explore the Petite-France section of this historic and culture rich area. We started from the train station and ended up at the Notre Dame Cathedral. We explored every nook and cranny and were awed by the beauty and the atmosphere Be sure to keep your camera battery well charged and to frequently upload your photos to the cloud. Also, bring your appetite. The cafes here are very friendly and they offer lots of good food, beer, and wine. We are planning a second trip to pick up want we missed out on.

A massive church, impressive in size. The architecture is not out of the ordinary and neither are the decorations. Both the exterior and the interior are simple, without impressive elements.

Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux church. It is not one, but rather two churches juxtaposed one over the other. Its two unusual bell towers mark the religious landscape that Strasbourg inherited, as a city sharing two faiths: one Protestant and the other Catholic.

An initial church was built in gothic style in 1389 and in 1529 became one of the city’s seven Lutheran Protestant parishes. In 1683, the church became Catholic once again and in 1867, ahead of an increase in the number of worshippers, the construction of a second building, perpendicular to the first, was decided.

The inside is modeste with beautiful stained glass.

Free entrance.
