Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cinema Utopia in Bordeaux shows an array of independent and foreign films in a wonderful setting with an adjoining cafe in central Bordeaux. Very reasonably priced at 4 to 6 Euros, and a consistent mix of good films in English. The first show every day is 4 Euros. Arrive early on Friday evenings and weekends to buy your tickets and get seats, and then have a drink before your film.

This is a super hip place, definitely check it out. They screen art house films from all over the world, non-dubbed which is actually not that common in France. You can also have a beer or glass of wine and cheese plate inside or outside and the setting in an old church is really cool.

We tried this bar as it was the only one in the square not busy ( a bad idea in retrospect).
We tried to order only to have the waitress walk off part way through talking to us.
We ended up just leaving and going to one of the other bars in the square (which was nice).

It should be the place, though you need to be prepared to sit the rough and dirty way and don't even think about going to the toilet..
Then having said that, I wonder about the food as I didn't dare trying...

A bar in an old church. That's what utopia is.
Staff is not very polite, if I have to be true, but food is fine and "pans" are delicious...the chef is able to combine lots of stuff that pit together in your mouth after each bite, will give you a sensation of real lust for food.
Very suggested is to go there for lunch, especially on a sunny day, since the bar is on a small square, very nice square, where you can easily enjoy the feeling of sun kissing your face and skin.
Do not ask for "cheese selection" - otherwise you would get a small dish with 3 or 4 very thin slices of cheese (usually not more than 2 different types)...let's say very deceiving especially whether the expectations were somehow different (a real dish of different kind of cheese)

Great movies, antique movie theater- used to be a church ! A great location! Sit outside in the sunshine while waiting for the movie to begin!

Includes a couple of vegetarian meals on the menu and very tasty as well. Relaxed informal cafe style atmosphere and always seemed busy. Great service even when we expected a wait. They were happy to adapt things on the menu to diners taste and did so efficiently. If you need a menu in English they can do that as well.

We visited Utopia last evening in Bordeaux and atmosphere of this place has amazed us. It’s situated in church where is today the cinema and this cafe. There is very nice atmosphere and stuff. We ordered three delicous salads and one sandwich, for end we ordered perfect dessert with coffee/tea as you can see on attached picture. We were the first visit from Czech Republic & Slovak Republic there.

Can you please tell me if it is air conditioned?
Written 22 May 2017
Sorry I missed this one. I believe it is air-conditioned but I couldn't be sure. I was there in the winter and I recall taking my coat off so that's probably my a good sign that it was.
