- Joana SLondon, United Kingdom595 contributionsDon’t miss this marketThis market is amazing and a must see, as you can find lots of the local products and also see how the locals live. It was very busy but i thought it was one of the best markets i’ve visited, so well organised and so much offer. Traditional french food and from around the world.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 19 November 2023
- Kate SDeep River, Canada44 contributionsGreat experience at a local marketMy husband and I came here 4 times during our stay in Bordeaux. Amazing vendors, fresh fruit and veg, cheese, meats, wine, baked goods and on and on. Busier on the weekends, but that also meant a few more vendors and great people watching. We stopped for oysters and wine, coffee and croissant's and then bought food for picnic lunches. This market was one of the highlights of our trip and can't wait to return next time we are in Bordeaux.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 June 2024
- ScaryCanaryHampshire, United Kingdom182 contributionsColourful sights and sounds, delicious things to buyA great fruit, veg and food market with a multitude of delicious things to choose from - cakes, meats, cheeses, fish, preserves, herbs etc etc. There are cafes too where you can enjoy oysters, prawns or just coffee. Well worth a visit and some great photo opportunities too. Not cheap prices but very nice produce.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 June 2024

This was a disappointment. We walked across the city to visit this market after seeing the reviews on trip adviser.. either the reviews are done by the merchant themselves or these people have never been to an indoor market because this was rubbish. The stalls looked sorry for themselves, there was no variety as they basically all sold the same thing and it was smelly. The smell of wee just transcendent the market. We left after about 10 min. Wouldn’t recommend if you’ve been to any other indoor market. By comparison, Covent Garden market is more exciting - and that’s saying something.

This market is in all the tourist guides of the city. Perhaps the reason is that there is also not much to see of great interest in the city. We went on a Tuesday, maybe that’s why it wasn’t very lively and there were many closed positions.
We were very struck that the only way to have a drink was in some of the 3 gloomy bars. Fishmongers don’t open your oysters in the wine shop, let you drink them there, or offer you a sad plastic cup.
I believe that any local market in a Spanish coastal city with more than 50,000 inhabitants offers greater appeal.

A traditional market that opens on Sundays and is a meeting place, not only for locals, but also for curious tourists like us, who love to know the pulse of the city through its local markets. We arrived almost at closing time so we found many stalls that were already collecting, but we were able to get an idea of what is going on in this traditional Abastos market, which is possibly the largest and most popular in the city. A reform would not hurt in my modest opinion

Corner Guet Apan:
We remember the smile of the restaurateur, passionate about his job. Dynamic, he puts us at ease and makes us discover his cuisine “like at home”.
-The imposing Côte de Boeuf was devoured.
-The breaded Camembert and its chorizo croquettes ditto.
- The Landes salad, well garnished and very good.
-The “Too good” Beef Onglet. Perfect rare cooking.
-The duck breasts were a little overcooked but the sauce convinced us. The accompaniment was good, although a little mashed potato would have been great.
-Delicious vanilla ice cream.
-The perfect crunchy crème brûlée
and very thick.
-Fresh bread.

Wonderful local food market with fresh meat, fresh, fruit and vegetable produce. This would be a fantastic stop off for any tourists staying in self catered accommodation. Wish we could have bought some of the fresh fish to cook and try for ourselves. One or two cafes inside serving simple french style breakfasts (toast with jam, coffee, etc)

After a walk in the center we stopped in this typical market where we found a nice place, Le Jardin, where we ate really well for not too much cost. Good wine, appreciable service, given the turnout. Certainly before leaving again it will be my pleasure to return to have lunch in this place. Advised

We took a stroll down to Marches des Capucins after watching the Rick Stein episode in Bordeaux! We were super impressed with the fresh produce on offer and tried a selection of mini bastide saucissons from a meat counter - so delicious and much better than the store bought options we are used to! After wandering around and stopping for a beer, we moved onto a small, lively mussel bar located near the entrance of the market called Poulette. We made friends with almost every person sat at the bar! The mussels were absolutely fantastic served with a generous portion of fries. The atmosphere was great and the staff were enthusiastic and very friendly. This was such a great find and a lunch we will treasure forever!

Visited here whilst on a long weekend in Bordeaux and although it was a lovely market it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Smaller than we expected and lots of the stalls were closed. We visited mid morning and covid would have probably been a factor I guess. Worth visiting if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way if you've got to travel from the other side of the city.

Filthy and unsanitary. An old hall from a long time ago. In dirty and subject condition.
Not inviting to buy any of anything here (from meat to vegetables ). Pigeons and sparrows fly and down the hall. Let alone rats and mice and any other pests.

This place is incredible. Don’t be put off by first impressions - it’s very busy, hectic and overwhelming but stick it out! It’s really authentic and a fantastic experience. This is the best fish platter I’ve ever had. Really reasonably priced and the staff were very efficient. Runs like clockwork and was a highlight of our time in Bordeaux!

I have bought some dried plums from the stall at the entrance to the maket. They are very good. Anyone can tell me where they are from. Any information will be great. Thank you!
