About
A not-to-be-missed part of your walking tour of the historic centre of Bergerac or a stroll along the Dordogne, the City Museum is part of our status as a City of Art and History. Photographic documents, rare archives, and specially-chosen objects bring to life the history of the birth of a city and its evolution to modern times, and its roots in a region where the river and vineyards have always played a crucial role in its development.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a good little museum in the old part of the town. There are a lot of displays set on a number of floors.
Give it a visit when in the area.

I found the entrance eventually - on the road down at the old port. Not a lot to this place - a shop and tasting area - a "nose" tutor area - a small wine cave display - a film about wine making in the region (in French and very poor sound quality that made it difficult to follow). Thankfully it was all free as I would not pay for this very limited exhibition. I think the main objective is to sell wines or get visitors to go visit the local chateaux/wineries.

Wonderful reception at the front, very informative. After a horrible experience at Le Pave restaurant (see my review for them), this was a nice change in the afternoon. I felt welcomed here after a really awful experience at lunch and they went out of their way to make me feel better.

Struggled at first to find the entrance but once found it was a pleasure to walk round. The boards are in French and English and we were lucky enough to watch the short film on the history of wine making in the region. Sound was a bit muffled so had to concentrate to hear everything. Sadly there are no guides or staff to help or explain things but it is only a small museum. It’s worth stopping off in the shop as they market locally produced wines and have tastings available. The staff in the shop were very helpful so much so that we ended up buying a couple of mixed cases of wine - still drinking!

Arrived at the reception and established that admission was free.
Went in and enjoyed the various smells that could be sampled.
Carried on round the exhibition boards that were in English as well as French.
Came to the audio-visual, which was not working.
No-one offered us any wine tasting.
Fascinating architecture.

This is a small but interesting and educational museum. The opportunity to smell various essential elements of the aromas of wines was fascinating - it gave life and meaning to the descriptions of wine; more could be made of it. The explanations and historical account of the local and national development of the wine trade were clear and well presented.

Great place to visit. some interesting thing to do 1.Pace out the external measurement from the old rear entrance to the street on the left.2 then pace out the measurement inside the square(where the big tree is) and you will be amazed. The Musee is very interesting and you must see the films also you can taste some of the wine .
