This chapel perched on an extinct volcano vent is one of the magnets that draws tourists to Le Puy en Velay . It is reached by a short walk up external stairs and provides an extended view over the countryside.

One of the exciting things to do in Le Puy-en-Velay is to visit this chapel. Although being a good example of the French Romanic style, what makes it different from other chapels in the same style is that this one was built on a high...More

This chapel is dedicated to the archangel Michael build on top of a rock. You got to be asking yourself how did they do it in the mediaeval times. Getting up there is not as difficult as you would think. There are wooden benches along...More

3.50€ adult ticket. Amazing panorama of the city and Notre Dame statue. 268 steps till the top. The real symbol of Le Puy en Velay.

What can you say? This is a pretty spectacular place and being able to access it is pretty special. The walk up the steps gets the heart rate going, but it doesn't take long. The view and the chapel itself make the climb worth it.

Incredible chapel perched up on a mountain. We were short on time so we did not climb up the 268 steps to the chapel.

I was really impressed by what people were able to build on top of a volcano in the 10th-11th centtury. The church is such a peaceful place, it' worth climbing the 268 steps to reach it. Besides, the views this climb offers you are spectacular.

It's not a co-incidence that they have a defibrillator at the top of this climb but it is worth it. The chapel is very peaceful and a great place for rest and reflection.

We visited the Chapelle just about one year ago. I believe it was 268 steps to the top. Easy climbing, spectacular setting and incredible views. We would definitely return for another visit
