The museum is close to the cathedral and has been modernised with taste so that one can walk around with pleasure among interesting paintings by famous painters such as Lucien Simon, Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard, Maurice Denis, and many others. On the groundfloor, there is a big hall dedicated to Max Jacob who spent his childhood in Quimper.

One of the prettiest museums I have visited right in the heart of the old city the building with it's modern extension is an oasis of calm and beauty. While we were there a terrific exhibition of self portraits was on display great to see in this age of the awful 'Selfie".

We had a rainy day during our stay in Brittany so decided to visit Quimper. This art gallery was right in the centre of the city, next to the cathedral and well worth a visit. They had an exhibition of self portraits but the rest of the gallery also had a number of fine paintings.

I did not expect to visit such a museum in Quimper. We actually got to see a Van Gogh. The collection that was presented is a touring portraits collections and it was superb! We loved our visit. There were several activities set up to engage children in the exhibits, so our daughters enjoyed it too.

Excellent permanent stock and on this occasion, excellent temporary show: les Rouarts. All well hung, well lit, not too crowded, airy, spacious feel to the gallery made browsing pleasant

We went primarily to visit the seeks portrait exhibition which incidentally is extremely well laid out and well worth a visit. There is a dedicated children's room with dressing up and drawing activities and jigsaws scattered throughout the permanent exhibits to keep the little ones moving and interested

Drawn to the Musee des Beaux Arts by a flyer in our hotel about the "Autoportraits du Musee D'Orsay" exhibition which runs to 2nd October 2016. One of the main attractions is the building itself which has been renovated (it opened in 1872), extended and more recently, reimagined with a modern extension at the rear and huge new display areas... The museum is well organised with a play room for children. The self portrait exhibition was excellent.

An excellent regional museum with a fine collection of Italian, French and Flemish art from the 14th to 21st centuries. Particular rooms display the work of 20th century Breton artists, local artists from Quimper and artists of the Pont Aven school. There was a temporary exhibition of contemporary art when I visited. The museum is housed in a beautiful Italianate... More

There was an interesting exhibition on artists' self portraits with pictures borrowed from Le Musee d'Orsay. This has, in its permanent collection, works by Breton painters such as Leleux and Girardeau. It also has works by Rubens, Fragonard and Boucher among others
