The old town of Auxerre is quite small and easy to walk around with lots of beautiful old and well preserved buildings. Lots of interesting little shops in the little alleyways. Pedestrian friendly with markers to point you to all the places worth a visit.
If you are near by this is definitely worth visiting. We found a large public parking lot near the center of town, found a map at the tourist office and spent a lovely afternoon walking around. Several nice churches. lovely clock tower and medieval buildings.
