With the dawning of the Renaissance, the mighty medieval fortress of Amboise gave way to a royal residence, during the reigns of the Kings of France Charles VIII and François I. The Court, a large number of men and women of letters and European artists, stayed here on invitation from the sovereigns, one example being Leonardo da Vinci who lies here in peace in the Château’s Chapel. This place of high renown in the History of France boasts an exceptional collection of Gothic and Renaissance furniture illustrating the artistic finery of the first French Renaissance. After a visit of the Royal House and the impressive Cavalry Towers, the walk continues in the magnificent panoramic gardens overlooking the Loire river.

The burial place for Leonardo da Vinci and a chateau for many famous people! It had a good brochure for those who don't join a tour, but very little information on the signs are in English so be prepared. It is quite small as it has been torn down during the years, but the parts that still stand are well... More

The Chateau d'Amboise has an amazing history. Approximately 1/5 of the original castle is left standing, but there is still plenty to see and explore. Great views over the river and the town! definitely worth a visit when in the area.

It's a nice and well kept chateau, by any measure. Gorgeous vistas and wonderful gardens. It's one of the smaller ones in the region, but don't let that prevent you from visiting. It still has plenty of royal flavor, excess and flamboyance. However one of the unexpected attraction was seeing Leonardo Da Vinci's tomb in the small chapel by the... More

Been there in october and it is an amazing place full of history. Very nice view on Loire and also on the city. The castle surroundings give you the real impression of a true fortress with heavy gates and tunnels. Prepare your camera and go !! Price is ok 11 euro.

In my opinion, a car is a must in the Loire Valley. It is so fun to wander from town to town and stumble upon one gorgeous chateau after another! The Chateau at Amboise is set high on a hill above the river and the approach is strikingly beautiful. Take the time to take a tour... and cover all the... More

Great Château! Worth the climb with beautiful views of Amboise, a charming city. Wonderfully restored to original glory. A must see if you are in the area. Staff is extremely helpful, not only for Château site, but for surrounding attractions.

I highly recommend getting the audio tour to fully experience this place. A quick tour may take as little as 30 mins, but allow 1:315-1:30 for the full experience. The inside rooms have been prepared so you can view the chateau like it was as a royal residence, then in its later stages. Top tip: look out for Leonardo da... More

Fascinating castle which is well worth exploring. It is a newer, more polished, lived in castle, but beautiful and interesting nonetheless. Look at the windows, the floor detail and the gargoyles on the exit ramp. Along with linenfold panelling, rich furnishings and a sense of history, as well as great river views, this Is great. And just along the road... More

It's easy to get to this chateau because it's in the center of town. The place was nicely decorated for Christmas, even Leonardo daVinci's grave, and the audioguide and booklet were very helpful. There was some construction going on in the entry area including an apparent upgrade of the restrooms so it should be even better come summer 2017.
