    Wear good footwear
This site is more than just a chateau. In addition to the castle, the grounds are extensive. If you have a chance to look at a map of the property before you go, you can plot the path that suits you best. We went on a hot day and so we only managed to see the chateau and one side of the grounds (the one with the farm and all the outbuildings). If you go in warm weather, I would recommend a hat and hand-held fan. Also, wear good footwear for walking. Not only will you be walking the grounds, but there is a walk from the parking lot to the chateau. It's an amazing property and you want to be able to enjoy it all.

    Chateau de Chenonceau
VERY crowded, even when we would consider it off season, but glad we went. The grounds are lovely. Entrance fee is 15.50 , you are given a time slot for your visit. There is a small donkey sanctuary on the grounds that we enjoyed. We were glad that we read about the history and property before we went, if you have time, we recommend that you do also.

    An elegant castle
This visit is also a must for tourists in Loire valley. Really an elegant castle above the water. It is not for nothing that several very famous ladies of French history have left their mark, both on the construction and the furniture.

    Beautiful and Understated
Beautiful, relaxed, more delicate, and enhanced by history of Catherine de Medici....this is how I describe Chenonceau. We enjoyed the setting along the river, the kitchens area, the office and green room of Catherine, as well as the black bedroom (mourning). The setting is extraordinary, you can see why it was chosen, and you can see why Catherine and Diane enjoyed being here. This was second in our organized Loire trip and it was on par with our first stop, Chambord. Chambord is more amazing for its intricate architecture and planning, Chenonceau is more of a delight to see what you find. They are different but equal. Thirdly we stopped at Cheverny that was not up to the same level of interest at all. Tips: 1) Consider eating lunch first, then going through chateau. Our tour of course went through chateau first, and got into line for lunch right ahead of us, as did everyone else. If you can time your touring right, you can eat in peace and then have the chateau in some peace as well, simply by flipping around your approach in this way. 2) We visited January 2nd and Christmas decor still up. It is really impressive. It is known as one of the best decorated for holidays. Yes, that is true! If you are devoted to such holiday decor, you may take as many pics of that as the chateau itself. 3) Go into the garden. The best views are from the garden back toward the chateau.

    A great place to visit
This is an amazing place. I have seen so many photographs of the Château and it really is better in real life. Wander around the grounds, try the maze, look in the Château and stop for a crêpe at La Gloriette. I had a citron, sucré crêpe with a café crème and they were delicious. The man and woman that were serving were so nice. Alternatively, there is a restaurant serving food. Don't forget to take the obligatory photographs of the Château. Incidentally, the toilets at the entrance do not cater for many people. There ate two cubicles for men and three cubicles for women so plan ahead. There is a gift shop with a good selection. This was a great place to visit.

    Fairytale in the Woods
My absolute favourite of all the Chateau’s we visited in the Loire Valley. Firstly, the setting is tranquil and peaceful, until you see river actually flowing beneath the Chateau you don’t quite believe it. The gardens are beautiful (even in the rain) with all blooms in the colours of the suffragettes. I do wonder given the women involved in the history of the chateau if the colours of the Gardens were chosen specifically or if that is a pure coincidence. I like to believe it’s intentional. There is a long tree lined walk from the car park to the chateau which frames the entrance perfectly. Unlike other chateau’s (Chambord specifically) most rooms are maintained with furniture that appears original or positively replicas - even if that’s the case it looks authentic. The staff quarters and kitchens are a must see. I would put this Chateau on the top of your list when in the Loire Valley.

An elegant and intimate visit for a full day of exploration.
Chenonceau is an elegant and intimate castle to visit. I would recommend to dedicate a full day to enjoy the buildings, as well as the gardens, the wine cellar, and the art exhibit. The castle is extremely rich in history, it's a delight to enjoy its beauty, and the several phases of architectural additions. The rooms inside the castle can be smaller, but they offer an intimate experience. The decors are plentiful, and the seasonal decorations are exquisite. there is an abundance of tapestries, furniture, and paintings, as well as a small chapel. There is a lot of space in the gardens, and in the park, for a more quiet experience. I also recommend stopping by the wine cellar for a presentation on the vineyards of the castle, and those of the Loire valley.

    What to say?… Such a special place!❤️
Perfect day for a visit: everything was very fluid, booking online made it a lot easier I must say. Everyone working in the place is very nice and helpful. It was a pleasure! The castle and surrounding gardens as usual beautifully maintained. A must-see at least once in a lifetime.

    Busy but worth the visit
This is the only chateau we needed advanced tickets. It is the most visited in the Loire Valley, the most commercial and the most organized with tours taking place all day. That being said, the furnishings were the best we saw representative of the Renaissance period. And oh, those tapestries - gorgeous

    The Best Loire Chateau?
If you had to pick one Loire Chateau I would make it here. Chambord rivals it in a way but is a great lump without the maticulous restoration that this has seen and without such outstanding out buildings and gardens. Also the rooms have much original furniture and few replicas. There are magnificent bureaux and beds and the tapestries are huge. Even with loads of tourists it still can seem very calm. I would say take the head set on your tour. It was the best of all the Chateaux we have visited. Also this is not just about the Chateau over the Cher river. It is about some remarkable women who kept it going and a chocolate family who have treated it with the love it needs to make it what it is today. We were told this was 2 to 3 hours. It is much more. There is enough here for a full day visit. Parking is plentiful and free.

My cousin, her two college aged daughters and I needed a break from walking during the recent transit strikes in Paris, so we hired a driver to take us to the Loire Valley. Our perfect day started with a visit to Château de Chenonceau. The house was beautiful, the furnishings were more complete than nearby Chambord and the audio tour gave many engaging stories about the women who owned and designed it. Full of women’s history, it was the perfect castle to catch the interest of the two girls. Beautiful river views and gardens even in the winter. Lots of nearby places for lunch and wine. Even the drive was interesting. If you need a break from the bustle of the city, the peaceful Loire valley is the perfect way to spend a day and Chenonceau is a perfect stop. The castle looked small, but we easily exceeded the two hours we planned by the time we listened to the audio, visited the stable and walked the gardens. I was glad we hired a private driver so we could be flexible on time. The hour allotted on some tours didn’t feel like enough. The girls said it was their favorite day and this was their favorite chateau. Oh, and January was a great time to visit. Absolutely no crowds! When we arrived we were the only ones on the grounds and we never shared a room with more than one other set of guests. Our driver said it can be quite crowded in season, so this felt like perfect timing!

We visited the castle in August '22 and also ate in the partially self serve restaurant on site. There were long queues for the ladies' toilets - as usual, so go earlier than you need to lol! The castle has plentiful parking and they allow dogs in the gardens and also, if you have a dog you can carry, they can be held whilst you are inside the Castle. We used the automated machines on arrival to get tickets as it is quicker than queuing inside. We had a student with us and got a discount on his ticket - for reference he wasn't asked to prove his student status. We looked at most of the gardens which are extensive but probably could have spent longer there if we had wanted to. The restaurant had a 10-15 queue but it is worth the wait and even though we have a complex mix of diets we all managed to eat, and fairly well too. It was naturally cheaper to get the huge bottle of water as the small ones were very expensive. They had a variety of salads, breads, chips, cakes, soup, veg and a few special dishes of the day. It wasn't overly expensive.

Would definitely recommend a visit especially if you have younger children and want to wear them out.

I first visited this chateau in 1976 in a school trip so it was lovely to return this summer. It was just as beautiful as I remember. We heard that there were long queues in the morning but we arrived at about 4pm and didn’t have to queue at all. It just didn’t leave us enough time to visit the chateau interiors AND hire a boat.

Chenonceau is the most amazing and most spectacular Chateau out of 8 we've visited on our 3 days Loire valley tour.
Situated between Tours and Blois south of Loire, on Le Cher river this 16 cent jewel shines in unbelievable beauty. Its setting on arches across the river is like a fairy tale and that's the prime reason to visit.
Interiors are nice, but nothing unseen - when you see one interior, you saw them all.
Gardens are very beautiful, but not as Villandry's (read that review).

Wonderful castle bridging over the water. Elegant gardens, although they were limited in choice due to the high temperatures we were visiting.

If you plan to visit the castle in high season, please make sure you book your entry tickets early and online through the castle‘s website, because access is limited and you are required to book for an exact time slot.

When we were there at 1pm, all visiting slots until 6.30pm were booked.

We hired a guide and a car to take a trip out of Paris, where we were based, to see some of the countryside and the various chateaux in the Loire Valley and it was well worth it. The villages are charming and the history of the women who built, embellished, protected, restored and saved Chenonceau in particular is very interesting. The gardens are beautiful but the artwork inside includes Rubens, Tintoretto, Corregio, Veronese, Van Dyck and many, many others, - masterpieces by some of the greatest European painters of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries that reflect both the history of the château and the leading role played by women in this history. Stop at Chambord first and then in the medieval village of Amboise for lunch and to see Da Vinci's final resting place on your way to Chenonceau. You can do it on a day trip out of Paris but you will have to commit at least 12 hours unless you stay somewhere overnight.

This Castle, on the contrary of others, thinks on their visitors. It was very hot so they had water spray showers. I think parking if also free. You should book in advance, price and reductions are very clear online (opposite from others). You can change your reservation one day before moving the day or time. So easy and efficient that makes everything more pleasant. The queues to enter are very organized, only 100 people every 15 minutes enter. Inside it is gorgeous very easy to visit, leaftlet in your language and the flowers at every room are amazing and give an add on incredible. We loved it. Seems like people still live there. It is live. The gardens are wonderful and the set makes this my favourite Loire Castle. Skip Chambord as you will find rude people, no visit path, empity inside and covered with scaffoldings that do not get well on picure. Chenonceau is perfect for half of a day. I would come back and recomend it. Nerby you can rent an eletric boat that gives you a water perspective of the Castle, or even kayaking. Many options to enhance this great experience.

This was a walk down memory lane for us. We were here 30 years ago with our young family and decided to revisit it as a retired couple while staying near Loudun.

The chateau was as grand as we remembered stand the grounds and facilities have been expanded in the intervening years. However, one thing that hasn't changed is the pricing of some refreshments, hence the title of my review. €4.30 for a 50cl soft drink is having a laugh. Coffees etc. were on a par with elsewhere as was some of the food offerings.

The other big disappointment was the house itself. The tours are self guided with ticketed time slots but there was little effort to control numbers inside the property making some of the smaller areas difficult to navigate or to appreciate the objects and paintings in them. We were there around midday in the height of the season so if possible an 'off peak' visit may be more rewarding - or arrange to be among the first entry of the day.

The grounds are impressive and the boating around the chateau is still going.

Overall a positive experience despite our comments above and I doubt there is a chateau in a better location. Lots of photo opportunities.

We were there on a Tuesday morning outside of the main season. There were many people, although probably not comparable to main season. In the castle it was very narrow so no distancing possible. There were people everywhere and as it is rather small it felt very cramped.
The parc is very nice with many different places to visit.
If you don't mind crowds this is certainly a beautiful castle to visit.

We had a great time at this castle. We pre purchased tickets for 9:30am and really enjoyed exploring the castle with smaller crowds with only a few people per room.We highly recommend the audio tour! It is really well done with the combination of audio and video. Also going early, the parking was wide open. Take your time after exploring the castle and walk around the gardens, the labyrinth and farm. Of all the castles in the area, we enjoyed this one the most.
