About Loire Valley Time Travel Day Tours
We provide custom private tours of the Loire Valley, traveling in our classic French 1953 Citroen Traction Avant, and we try to make a day with us like having a day out with friends. We visit the grand chateau you have always dreamed of seeing, stopping along the way at small overlooked sites that can range from WW2 memorials to ancient ruins and troglodyte caves. We are originally from Australia, and toured the world before settling in France and deciding to share their love of the Loire Valley with visitors. On all of our tours Simon drives the classic cars, while Susan shares her wealth of knowledge about the Loire's history, way of life and natural environment.

The Royal City of Loches, discovering a treasure that's off the beaten track

This is a site with many stories: I'll talk about a wide range of subjects including the stories of the women associated with this site, medieval personal hygiene, social status of mistresses, a very famous prisoner, historic graffiti and medieval weapons. My background is not art history, but collections care and the behind the scenes management of historic sites.

Guided walking tour of Chenonceau chateau

This is a site with many stories: I'll talk about a wide range of subjects including womens history, mysterious graffiti, technological and scientific changes, peoples beliefs, dietary changes, garden history and what drove the economy when the chateau was built. Some powerful female characters have occupied this place - some of them you will have heard of, some will be new names for you. but all are fascinating. I'll cover a bit of modern history too - what happened here during the two World Wars. I'm very happy to tailor the presentation to clients interests. If there is interest I can cover medicine, engineering, textile manufacturing, transport and more, all of which can be demonstrated by elements of this magnificent site. But the lives and loves of the women who lived here will not be forgotten in all of this. Nor will the beautiful objects inside. My background is not art history, but collections care and the behind the scenes management of historic sites.

We booked the tour of Cheverny & Chenonceau with lunch and a winery stop with Susan & Simon. We took the train from Paris and were met promptly by Susan & Simon. We had a great visit to two different Chateaux with a tour by Susan, who explained the history and art to us. Had a great lunch stop with wine at a local restaurant then also stopped at a lovely small winery for a tour of their caves and a tasting with some delicious cheese. The car was lovely and very comfortable for touring around. It was one of our favorite days. And so nice not to be in a big bus with lots of other people. They dropped us back at the train station and we were back in Paris in time for a nice dinner.

We traveled by train from Montparnasse Station to St Pierre des Corps, where we were met by Simon, Susan and Celestine, and whisked away to a lovely day visiting the chateaux at Cheverney and Chenonceau, with stops to view other beautiful sights along the way. I had no idea that in addition to including admission to each site, a three-course lunch with wine, and a winery visit and tasting, we were also going to be treated to a comprehensive and personalized guided tour through history by the very knowledgeable Susan, an art and history expert who wove our way directly to the most intriguing spots at each site and cheerfully tailored our visit to the things we were most interested in rather than drowning us in details such as, for example, the complete history of armour (which she is also fully capable of covering for those who like that sort of thing). At the end of our day we were escorted right to the correct track and car number for a stress-free ride back to Paris. All in all a unique and wonderful experience, with photos and memories that will be cherished and revisited for many years to come. Highly recommended, especially for history buffs with a strong aversion to slogging around foreign places like schoolchildren on a crowded bus tour.

Clare and I had a terrific time with Susan and Simon. We had such great day travelling around the local area visiting chateaux and wine makers and learnt so much. Claudette, the car, was just great and Simon was answering questions about her all day! We cannot recommend Loire Valley Time Travel Tours highly enough. Book with Susan and Simon and have a wonderful day. Paul Cuttill

My wife and I spent a wonderful day with Susan and Simon in the Loire Valley. We visited Loche, Chenonceau and a Vouvray winery. Susan is an excellent tour guide. She is super-knowledgeable about the history of the Loire Valley and was able to bring that history to life. Simon is also very knowledgeable as well as fun and an excellent driver. Celestine the car was beautiful and comfortable for our tour. Our lunch at a locals restaurant was delicious and we really enjoyed getting to know Susan and Simon. Pedro at the winery walked us through the winemaking process and let us taste several wines. I will definitely take another tour with Susan and Simon on our next visit to the Loire Valley.

Susan and Simon helped us plan and enjoy one of the best tours we have had anywhere. I originally noticed them because Susan is really into gardening and plants - which is a focus for my wife. When I corresponded with her she designed a two day trip that provided many beautiful gardens and even a “garden town”. Moreover, she more than satisfied my interest in seeing some of the historical sights. The transportation was a 1937 Citroen which was unexpectedly fun. Drivers and pedestrians were always waving and showing their appreciation for the classic car. Simon is a very good driver and an even better conversationalist. He also has a keen sense of Humor! Susan turned out to be much more than a plant person. She has such a broad knowledge base it is truly amazing! Her descriptions of the gardens and the various designs and contrasts were excellent. At the same, she continually amazed me at how she could bring history to life as we visited the Chateaus. I really appreciated how she could answer rather detailed questions about the lives of the various royalty. She is at least as good an historian as she is a horticulturist! Both days were just amazingly pleasant and enjoyable.
