Wonderful Basilique

Beautiful, historic. If you have a love for cathedrals, you will enjoy this one, there is a lot of history here.

St Martin is the patron saint of Tours, the former capital of France, and there is a set of buildings near each other in the Old Town. This is worth visiting, but do make the effort to see the Cathedral, on the other end of Old Town--that is truly impressive.

We took a break from the cycle to visit this Basilica and it was very well worth the stop, a really beautiful building.

The church is being restored externally at the moment and it looks as though it is closed. It is not! Go down the side passage and the main entrance is at the back. An interesting church to look round and this year is a special one - 1700 years since his birth. So many special events - worth finding out... More

Visited during my pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The church is in the middle of the city centre. It feels like it's squeezed between the modern buildings. Had a lovely chat with a nun, who stamped my pilgrim credential with a lovely stamp. The 2016 is the 1700th anniversary year for Saint Martin. In my review about the Saint Gaitien... More

My last name being Martin, i am bias. This place has the some relics of Saint Martin. The awesome thing is that this place was connected to the clock tower and another building which is a block away. it was huge. He was born in 316 way before all the other religions. Protestants broke away from the catholics around 1500.... More

There are a few things to see in Tours, this basilica is one of them. It is a truly grand building, with great architecture and stained glass windows. This has been rebuilt, in Neo byzantine style, not so long ago as the original cathedral was demolished during the French revolution. One must visit it during your trip here.

The Basilique is nice and pretty. Might not be one of the most outstanding one in France but definitely visiting if you are around the area
