- 245olegvMadrid, Spain3,812 contributionsAbsolutely obligatory visit if you are in Champagne. This is absolutely “the must thing to do” if you are in Champagne area. Not only because this street is a UNESCO heritage, but because you’ll understand how important is Champagne for France and for the World. You can come by train (30 minutes) from Reims, and to walk this avenue is just 1 km long. However, it’s not just walking, it’s visiting a big variety of Champagne brands and Mansions, museum of Champagne and the whole spirit of this magnificent area with incredible history. You can try the best champagne, see the headquarters of one of the best brands and have eternal memories of this memorable visit.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024

Quiet streets and easily walkable. Venture downtown for dinner though because things close early (6-7)Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 August 2024

We went to Epernay and the surrounding villages to taste and select champagne for a forthcoming wedding. Despite some awful weather we had a marvellous time. The champagne houses were not what we were expecting but exceeded our expectations with their warmth and welcome. If you like champagne you need to come here once in your life to really understand what you are drinking. A visit to the Pommery caves in Reims is also highly recommend.

This is the easiest way to drink a lot of different champagne in a short period of time. Most of the houses will have a sign outside indicating what kind of tasting, if any, they offer. If not, when you see an open gate you can go inside an ask. When not drinking you can enjoy the lovely architecture or views of hillsides across the river. It’s a short walk from the train station and there is also a lot of street parking.

Magnificent row of exquisite palaces and grand mansions representing the most successful houses of the champagne industry. Reportedly the most expensive street in the world, was so thrilling to read all of the names on the decorated gates. Some had people sitting in their courtyard enjoying a glass of the delicious bubbly.

Pleasant to stroll along Avenue de Champagne.
The champagne houses are very well decorated from each other.
The only negative point is that some houses are not always open… A regret.
Concerning glasses of champagne, the price varies… But generally around 7 euros.
To do this avenue at least once…

Very cool! You can see everything you need to see in a day and it's plenty of good champagne tasting! All the tasting houses are side by side so you can see 4 or 5 in a day. It's pretty expensive but well worth the experience!

Such a beautiful, clean wide avenue lined with gorgeous buildings. We really enjoyed walking the length of the Avenue taking in the views and the champagne houses. There are numerous beautiful courtyards where you can try the champagnes. The Hotel de Ville, by the tourist info, has stunning and quiet gardens.
Plenty of free on street parking.

When we go to Epernay, we take always a 2-hour walk on it. Amazing buildings, lively street (mostly tourists). When going to one of the caves, take a full walk on the street as well.

To kill time because we were way too early for our champagne tour at Nicolas Feuilatte, we decided to take a trip through the wine fields. It was picking time, so the harvest was in full swing. In between we passed through Epernay, where we expected more. Almost all the important champagne houses are located in the wide street through Epernay. Nice to see, but nothing more than that. A visit to a winery completes your experience.

Impressive buildings, great hospitality, stunning scenery and most of all delicious Champagne. My wife booked this and I wasn’t too sure but ended up been a highlight along with the whole town of Epernay itself. Plenty of Champagne houses to pick from and plan at least half a day if not more if you like a glass or five along with some great nibbles.

I'm unclear if this is a guided tour or just people navigating it proactively?
The link is broken.

Hi
Planning on stopping in Epernay and walking the Avenue ..
Where 's the best place to park?
Is parking free? if not,how do you pay?
Thanks

Sorry I have only just seen this question. There is a car park in the centre of Eperney near the avenue. Unsure if this is free or not but the locals use this. We parked on the road near our b& b In a side street which was free. Hope this helps

Hi,
Is it possible to just pop in for a glass of champagne or do i need to make appointments in these places and do a tour? We have small kids who won't put up with a tour or much standing about....

There are plenty of places you can have a glass for tasting. Plenty on Rue de Champagne or further out.

Hi Paul,
I am planning a champagne tasting trip this fall. I am interested in seeing some of the bigger houses but would love to see a lot of the smaller ones too. I am interested in knowing how you travelled between the smaller houses. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to navigate around to the different smaller houses. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

We stayed in a gite in Trélou-Sur-Marne and the owners has a champagne house. One must make an appointment with the smaller houses. We had a tour& tasting with them, the wife could speak a little English. But wow! Want nice Champagne we tasted! So worth while finding the smaller houses!
