Daniel Jeffreys was our tour guide and a natural story teller. He led us through Parisian streets and made us see the German occupation through the eyes of a young French Jewish woman, Helene Berr, who ultimately died at Bergen Belsen in April, 1945. He gave great insights into how Parisian lives were changed by the Germans, and he did... More

A terrific way to spend three hours on a Sunday morning. We had the knowledgeable and friendly guide, Isabelle, who enriched the tour by her exceptional command of history. She was open to our questions and highlighted many artifacts and works that we would have missed. I would highly recommend this tour as money well spent. Having been on Context... More

This was a really wonderful walk (though long) through the 1st, 5th and 6th Arrs seeing some fabulous churches. Our guide was well versed in the relevant information about all of them and answered all our questions even those outside the subject. She explained the architectural features and history in a most consumable way. Thank you so much Nicole.

Dear Whatatraveller, thanks for letting us know your thoughts on the tour! It's great to read that Nicole was such an apt guide to these churches and their significance. Her academic specialty in Gothic architecture lends itself well to the subject. We'll be pleased to share your feedback with her, and we look forward to welcoming you again! Best, Context More

We were very pleased with our entire experience with the tour. I would highly recommend it. The tour guide, Caroline, was extremely knowledgeable and able to condense information in a way that helped make sense of what we were seeing without overwhelming us.

My husband and I spent a morning in the Louvre with some of the best Italian art on the planet with an extremely knowledgeable guide. The Louvre can be overwhelming, but when we focus on a specific (mini) genre, suddenly it is less daunting and the tour is more meaningful. We were asked to look at and consider paintings that... A narrow focus really does helps to take in the gargantuan collection! We'll look forward to seeing you next time for the French Masters! Best, Context More

We have taken numerous Context Tours. This week we did three tours in Paris - Musée d'Orsay and Paris in the 19th Century, Baguette to Bistro: Culinary Traditions of Paris, and Lights Out Paris under Occupation. All three were perfect in their own way. All of the guides were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects. They were flexible with... More

I took the "Lights Out; Paris Under The Occupation" tour with my wife and two friends. We were joined by another lady and comprised a party of five. Our leader was Nigel. We did the chocolate tour of St Germain and it was excellent. Our guide, Marion, was wonderful. So knowledgeable about food and very charming. We visited 5 places and learned a lot and tasted amazing chocolates and pastries. All of the places we visited were beautifully designed with incredible food. I did two tours through this company while in Paris - one on D-Day beaches in Normandy and one as a walking tour of Paris during the Nazi occupation. Staying in Le Marais

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.
