Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is the Tomb to the Unknown Soldier, right under the Arc de Triomphe. The Arch was built to celebrate past victories in war. and it is a very appropriate spot to honour those who sacrificed their lives, particularly the unknown soldiers. A great spot. Worth visiting.

PROS
* Very significant and important national French memorial
* This commemorates and preserves the remains and the honor of those who fought to preserve (or regain) French liberty and national independence
* It is located under the Arc de Triomphe
* Military ceremony every day at 1830h
CONS
* No security or honor guard in 24 hour attendance, as I saw at Arlington Cemetery Tomb of Unknown Soldier at Washington DC
* The bronze plaque marker just sits there, enclosed and marked by a low metal chain, a flame and flowers.... and that’s it except for a sign asking for decorum.
"I VISITED THIS PLACE."...
... as an essential part of my excursions in Paris. I think that is tremendous. I tried to show honor and respect and gratitude.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
It is free

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is located under the Arc de Triomphe at Place Charles de Gaulle. Within this burial space are the remains of a fallen French solider from WWI (1914-1918).
The memorial is roped off but you can walk up to the tomb on both sides to see the tomb inscription, the eternal flame and small bouquets placed around the side of the tomb.
You can see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before/after you enter and visit the Arc De Triomphe or while you walk around the grounds of the famous landmark in Paris.

We visited the very centrally located monument on a cold March evening, which was totally appropriate to grasp the somber atmosphere of it.

beneath the arch of the Arc de Triomphe is the French monument dedicated to the unknown soldier. Interesting that the place chosen to acknowledge and thank the war dead is in a monument created for the celebration of the victories of war. I commend them.

I cannot tell a more appropriate place for the Unknown soldier tomb than this one beneath the Triumphal Arch.
It is adorned with an eternal flame and ever present flowers.
To reach it please use the underground passageway, do not try to run across the Etoile.
Great views of Champs Elysees.

I visited this place twice during two weekend nights. I tried to give this Memorial the dignity, respect and honor that it deserves. This commemorates and preserves the remains and the honor of those who fought to preserve (or regain) French liberty and national independence. By signifying this one person, it honors all those who “gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
Yes- I know that there is an honor ceremony there every evening at 1830 (I managed to be occupied with other things in both days at sundown, so I didn’t go- as much as I wanted to do that).
.... but where is the 24 hour (or any at all) honor guard- military or civilian?? Where? The bronze plaque marker just sits there, enclosed and marked by a low metal chain, a flame and flowers.... and that’s it except for a sign asking for decorum.
AFAIAC- this place needs more evident and honorable 24 hour military escort and general security.
How is it that in the 21st century, we can go unimpeded and unscreened through the subway passage after hours, access the steps and proceed to this profound and significant memorial?

Situated beneath the Arc de Triomphe is the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Since 1923 an eternal flame has burned in their memory.

Located beneath the Arc de Triomphe, resides France’s soldier “known but to God”. He represents all those who perished and were never identified in both World Wars. Atop his coffin surrounded by pillars and chain is an inscription “Here lies a French soldier who died for the fatherland 1914 – 1918”. An eternal flame burns at the head of the memorial.
When at the Arc de Triomphe stop by and pay your respects to this gallant hero.
