A major crossroads, where big streets come together, and where different neighborhoods are joined. It has been a big traffic circle with a monumental pillar in the middle. The traffic has been re-routed, maybe it flows better? Lots of buses converge here and there is a big metro station underneath. This was the site of the Bastile prison, which was torn down during the Revolution. It's now the site of lots of cafes and chain restaurants.

Here was the Bastille, now there is a spacious and very interesting illuminated monument. The square is huge and peaceful, except when there are protests.

I spent the least amount of time here but it's worth a look for its cultural and historical importance in French history.

The Place de la Bastille is a large public square located on the historic site of the Bastille Prison, when the storming of it in 1789 sparked the French Revolution.

It's ideally located next to a busy main street filled with shops, restaurants, patisseries, and plenty of traffic, both pedestrian and vehicles.

Very bad dinner. Immediately we found a hair in our dinner. The escargots were cold and the bavette was raw. We tried to cancel the rest of our food but not possible.

The traffic circulation has changed a lot and is much improved so now this big square is more friendly to pedestrians and bikes. We were able to get close to the monument in the center. Lots of places to eat and drink all around. The Bastille prison was once here, historic site.
