Walking is better for short distances the metro for long distances, cabs where neither connect really well, but the bus system is outstanding. It's great fun just to take a ride, sitting on the right side, of course, so you can see all the sights. The drivers are very helpful, but in Paris it is absolutely essential to say "bonjour"... If you have short distances to go, then walk; if longer and in a hurry, then take the Metro. But the Paris bus is the best way to see a lot of Paris at a leisurely pace, and people-watch other passengers at the same time. If you are here for a week at least, and come reasonably frequently, invest in... More

As an older solo traveler the famous Paris Metro is difficult. Just too damn many stairs. Taxi so expensive. What's an old girl to do. Well that's easy get on the bus. Check the schedule and the routs with any good guide book or your electronic device. (that's what I do) The bus is 2 euro. big deal. Same passes... More

I find the Paris Metro to be a fast transport mode and easy to navigate, but if speed is not essential, I prefer to take the bus. The local network covers all neighborhoods, is easy to use and offers passengers the opportunity to see the city. Bus 69 is a great one for tourists, because it provides an introduction to... More

We purchased a day ticket for the buses and Metro system that cost a converted £15.86 enabling you to see the majority of the sights at lees expense than the tiur buses. Numbers 42 and 69 are the best two routes.

Most sensible way of seeing Paris. I took Paris bus last Nov 2014 and did not miss a thing. Gives you flexibility to explore the major Paris attractions at your own pace.

Once you are actually sitting on the bus, it provides an enjoyable overview of Paris. The pre recorded commentary in English was very informative and in working order. The biggest drawback was that the STOPS along the route are not clearly marked. Very small bus signs that look like city bus signs. It was very difficult to tell where it... More

Took a 24 hr ticket for the Big Bus in Paris. Hopped on at louvre and during the 24 hr period (except night) went to all 8 destinations and spent time there. Even though it was very cold and windy on the top, yet the trip was worth it.

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.
