It is a nice garden, large, ideal for walk, but not really exceptional. Especially on sunny weekends it is crowded. You can spend there1 or 2 hours max.

The Jardin des Plantes, in the 5th Arrondissement, is a plant and gardeners paradise! Or, just a perfect place to spend an hour or two to picnic and enjoy some time away from your fellow tourists. If you are a gardener (as I am) you will love the enormous variety of plants and trees in settings that are so french.... More

- Visited the gardens with my wife and we were awed by its size. Its really huge! However, gardens in Versailles turned out to be even bigger. :) - Nonetheless, this place was less crowded and allowed us to roam and laze on benches with ease. - Would recommend visiting the gardens early in the morning when the sun is... Of course not many flowers this time of the year but still found some. It gets quite busy on weekends and holidays. We will be back in May.

These 17C gardens are a lovely tranquil spot, mainly tourist free, yet only 500m from Notre Dame cathedral. There are plenty of benches to relax, sunbathe or have a leisurely lunch. Even in October, the gardens were very colourful, so in mid-summer they must be very impressive.

There is a zoo inside which is expensive and doesn't have that much animals. It's a little bit dull and takes too much time.

If you are really interested in plants of every kind, this will be an enjoyable place for you to visit. Having been to the Tuilleries and Luxembourg Gardens, this was a big letdown, but it is a very peaceful place. It’s popular with locals for jogging.

Just visited Jardin des Plantes for research for my new Paris book. This is the most interesting garden, zoo, and scientific complex in the city in my opinion. The gardens and pathways are a delight to stroll/jog/see for anyone, young or old. There are museums, exploratoriums, and much to delight families, singles, or couples. Free except for certain museums. A... More

It was early October, so plantings definitely in their final days, but there was still plenty to see in the outdoor gardens. We also paid to go in the green houses, but I'd say they were geared more for study or learning experiences. It was rain forest-like, and interesting, but labeling was botanical names and a bit unfamiliar. There are... More

Our hotel, Best Western quartier latin, was less than 5 minute walk from here. Early October , and everything was still in bloom. Lots of benches for picnicking. Great people watching. They do have vendors selling food in the park. But, we got lunch from Pinaud bakery across from our hotel on Rue Monge. The park does close in the... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
