About
This famous Left Bank neighborhood, so named because the numerous university students in the area spoke only Latin to their professors until the French Revolution, preserves an authentic Parisian atmosphere of old.

    Hive of activity.
I made my way to the Latin Quarter by following Rick Steve's audio tour of historical Paris. A bustling area, with lots of bars and restaurants. Probably a very interesting and lively night out!

    Latin Quarter Walking Tour
We booked this walking tour through Enchating Travels. Our tour guide was Paula with Memories France. She was amazing & had a lot of knowledge of the history of the Latin Quarter. She kept it entertaining and kept us moving! Highly recommended!!

    The Influence of the Universities
We have a dear friend who has long lived in this area, and she fits right in as a retired professor from a local university. So we were here to visit, sat in a great cafe, shared glasses of wine, observed the flocks of cool young people all around. The importance of the universities here cannot be over-emphasized as the are the economic engine and flavor everything.

    Heart of Paris
Full of rich history, bookstores, cobblestone streets, students and tourists alike. The Latin Quarter, famous for bars is also home to Paradis Latin, the oldest cabaret in Paris. It was founded by Napoleon in the 19 th century.

Surmounted by the Pantheon, the streets that climb up and then descend onto the "mountain" of Santa Genoveffa are home to a very rich student population, a series of places to eat at fairly reasonable prices and charm to spare. In the shadow of even important sites (the interiors of St Etienne are beautiful, and a stop at the Cluny Museum is obvious nearby), the streets have a very particular atmosphere, enlivened by the inevitable tree-lined squares. Rue Mouffetard deserves its fame, but the advice is obviously to wander far and wide to discover views (in this neighbourhood, often very "alternative").

To eat in Paris at the right price you have to go to this area..... obviously don't be enchanted by the first restaurateur who invites you to enter his restaurant, choose the one you like best and above all don't eat Italian, the disappointment could be high!! !
I ate the fondue: an excellent fondue and then some excellent meat!!!!

P.S: if you don't want to get fleeced on the water, choose the one in a jug!!!

Stayed with friends in a facility in the Latin Quarter. Very "lively" neighborhood, especially in the evening, with several clubs (especially in Place de la Contrescarpe) open until late in the evening. Live music is also often made in the same square. The area is well served by public transport and, in a short time (even on foot), you can reach both the Ile de la Cité and the Eiffel Tower. Super recommended as a neighborhood to stay during a Parisian vacation.

If there is a place in Paris I really appreciate it isn't Champs-Elysee or Tour-de-Eiffel, it's the Latin quarters. They have a charm and rusticity that many other areas lack. Just going through the romantic streets looking at chocolate in store windows or grabbing a beer/wine at one of the local restaurants or bars is a well deserved break from the otherwise so stressful city.

This tour with Georgia was absolutely marvellous. She made the Latin Quarter come alive for us, leading through the architecture of the various centuries and the stories the the buildings told. We cannot recommend this tour enough for anyone that wants to know the story of Paris.

Paris was fabulous! We stayed in the Latin Quarter and loved the neighborhood feel as well as the location to get to so many of the sights easily. The Cafe’s and bakeries were fun to pop into and very plentiful. The restaurants all served amazing foods!

We walked this neighborhood, like many others, in the rain. We loved Paris, which we got to know better by walking. Also for me there is nothing better than walking around the city in the rain and seeing these buildings, streets and monuments. March is an excellent time without many people and queues

The heart of this neighborhood was the place of the most important university in Europe during the Middle Ages. The university presence continues into modern times, so it is crowded, full of schools and book stores. Lots of inexpensive places to eat fast food.
