This is one of my favorite places in Paris. I loved this area and even though it is a long walk, it is worth the effort. The views of the city, traveling through the artist's district and hearing the stories of the area are extremely worthwhile. I recommend walking the narrow streets and trying to find the "love wall" where... More

Avoid the "String-Men"! Apart from the con artists that base themselves at the bottom of the hill and try to take your money, the Sacre Coeur is a must see sight in Paris.

This is one of the most beautiful churches in the world. Lots of light, beautiful stunned glass and hundreds of flickering candles. The views over Paris from the terrace are astonishing. If in Paris do visit - and then go on to the great cafes and shops nearby

Was in Paris for a week for work and came back to Montmartre three times. Sacre-Coeur is a must see basilica ... absolutely breathtaking architecture and artistry. I also loved wandering around the Place du Tertre where the artists paint and show their works. Had lovely meals at outdoor cafes. Highly recommended.

After climbing the impressive steps to the concourse at the front this structure is as stunning up close as it is from afar. We chose to pay to climb the towers by way of narrow spiral steps so not for the feint hearted but entry to the main areas is free to appreciate it's beauty. There is a fennicular light... More

Loved the busy streets leading up. The gardens and the views made the climb bearable. Sitting on the steps, taking it all in was lovely on pretty May day that we visited. Inside was dark and crowded but really amazing to see.

Security measure's make this a bit of a chore these days. Paris is starting to be like a war zone,. scanners and metal detectors with fences everywhere. So sad. If your in Paris you have to see this and travel the back streets of little cafe's etc.

Staying in Montmartre

Neighbourhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
