We walked from our hotel to this beautiful building. The view from the steps across Paris is worth the walk. Building is stunning inside and location at the top of the hill is lovely. With many restaurants and street artists in the square.

We got off at Pigalle station and walked our way up to reach the church. We liked the architecture and views from the stairs, eventhough it doesn't beat the view from La Grande Roue or the top of the Eiffel tower. There was a mass in the church with an absolutely amazing chorus to whom we had to stop and... More

On the hop-on-hop-off bus, and got off at the stop to walk up to Montmarte. It was a different atmosphere to where we were staying (near the Eiffel Tower)..Busier and I felt a tad seedier. We took the funicular up to the top, and had a wonderful view of Paris..well worth the visit. there were a few sellers of handbags... More

Can't come to Paris and not see this church. The walk to the church itself is the perfect opportunity to see Montmartre. The church is beautiful and has regular services. It is renowned for holding continuous prayer services for over 125 years, day and night. It's a cool place. And the view in front of the church is breathtaking. There... More

I am staying in La Chapelle and have been running up to Sacré-Cœur. It is so majestic and such a beautiful place to sit and ponder even though it's usually packed with people.

Good opportunity for a photo of Paris; there is one spot where the Eiffel Tower is visible. Monmartre is just behind the church with plenty of restaurants and a few characters.

An amazing view of Paris is in store, when you make the trek up to the Sacre-Coeur. Its a tremendous basilica, and it's surrounded by carefully hidden side streets straight out of your favorite French films.

This church is accessible by a funicular as well as a series of staircases. On a clear day, you will be rewarded with very good views of Paris. It's a good spot to have a picnic.

Staying in Montmartre

Neighbourhood Profile
Montmartre
Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and styles which changes from one street to another. Ride the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy features shops not intended for young audiences, while residences are scattered to the north and east. The diverse population includes a large part from the Arab-speaking world, Africa, and Turkey. It’s a corner of Paris full of life and dynamism with charms that can’t be found anywhere else.
