How much money did they take from poor people to build this place? This is just a big church on a hill. Notworth the effort. Go uo to the hill and walk your way down, ignore the church.

We stopped here while on a Citron tour and enjoyed watching the sun set from the steps. Unfortunately, we didn't return to visit it in more depth, but just seeing the surrounding area and visiting the grounds was so worth it.

Hubby and I took an audio walking tour of Montmartre hosted by "Join Us In France" podcaster Annie Sargent. The tour was very informative and ended at Sacre-Coeur. We toured the cathedral and then overlooked the entire city of Paris. It was a wonderful experience ! We were so glad we made time for it during our short stay in Paris !

I thouroughly enjoyed my visit even and It was easy to arrive after taking the metro. The Basilica itself is breath taking. When we were walking up the hill and finally arrived , we all just stood there and stared in amazement. There were a lot of people , but we could still take our time. The views of the city are also amazing. It is definitely worth the trip!

A beautiful large basilica. It does not as much of the spectacular stain glass as Notre Dame or St. Chappelle but is impressive in its size. Very crowded at the top of a steep hill.

A Paris landmark worth visiting. You’ve seen this from a distance, why not enjoy it up close and take in Paris from here?
We loved the walk (hike) up, taking advantage of the good exercise after a lovely dinner nearby. There’s also a funicular if you don’t want to make the steep trek on foot.
It was Friday evening, an hour or so before sunset, the place was a little crowded, lively. Lots of people apparently awaiting sunset. Several people offering bottled cold Heineken for sale. Each section of the staircase had a street performer playing live music for tips. The place was vibrant with sights and sounds worthy of both a date night or tourist destination.
Expansive views of Paris, including the Eiffel Tower off in the distance. Pack a picnic or some drinks and plan to stay a while, making use of the giant staircases for sitting or lounging.
If you’re a dog lover, there’s also a dog park in the immediate area where you can watch some four-legged friends frolic and play.
Don’t miss out!

Best to visit early in morning or late in evening for spectacular views of Paris. Here is some advice:
1) Arrive via Pigalle Metro stop, then walk the windy stairs up to Montamarte.
2) Montamarte is an amazing area with windy streets, cafes, flowers, and amazing views.
Walk the area over and over. Drink, talk, and be merry.
3) The Basilica is gorgeous
4) Unless having mobility issues, no need to take the furnicular.
5) The artist expo area is a showcase of great inspiring Parisian artists
Yes, the area is packed with tourists, and yes the area is incredible.

Travelling with elderly parents who can not climb a bunch of stairs - Can you take a cab right to the entrance of the church?

Hello, you probably can take a taxi directly to the church. As well, there is a funicular that can take you there. Enjoy!
when are the artists outside painting? is it only on sundays?

We were there at Christmas and it was cold outside. The Christmas markets are not to be missed. They can be found throughout Paris. You can find anything and everything! I bought gifts, artwork, holiday ornaments, clothes. All locally sourced. If you are traveling during the warmer months, artisans will be plentiful throughout the city!

My answer is the same as Matthew. I am back home so I don’t know. I wish I could be of more help. I hope you get to see it as it is beautiful and the area around it is too. Enjoy your time’.

Traveling with handicapped person. Is this place wheelchair friendly? Or should I just avoid it?

We walked up there, but saw tourist vans depositing people up near the church. There may be a ramp for you to push wheelchair up the last number of steps. Not sure.

How do you reach the cable car and how much does it cost? I’m traveling with my elderly parents.

Take the metro to Blanche. This will bring you out right by the famous Moulin Rouge. Form here you can catch a “road train” up to Sacre Coeur for a few Euros (about €7 per person one way) or you can get a return if your parents need to, but it is an easy walk back down
It’s a lovely trip up with English commentary, and so easy to get to and from. We have difficulty walking too far and we have just returned ourselves from Paris and discovered this by accident.

We are planning for a trip here with my lo who is 2 year old. Is it advisable to travel with the lo in metro? Secondly, if I take Uber,do I also need to carry a car seat?
Thank you in advance.

Oh and if you like art, make sure you walk behind the sacre couer and to the left, huge art market back there with people selling their handmade art, and lots of restaurants. Great art district and fun just to look. Amazing how talented some of these people are and it's a great homemade souvenir for a decent price.
