If the weather is nice this is one of my favourite places in the city to pick up some of best food Paris has to offer. The street runs downhill from Place de la Contrescarpe to the roundabout beside the Saint Medard church. The street is lined with specialty food shops all offering top-quality products. You can do all of... More

We took the bus to this open air market on a Saturday and really enjoyed walking through the area. There was everything from different kinds of food, new and used goods, meat, seafood, bakeries, furniture, art, collectibles and on and on. We meandered through the streets taking in the the ambience of the place and people watching. What a great... More

Paris has some great street markets for food, and this is one of them. It's only open in the mornings, most days except Monday I believe. It's only about 3 short blocks long, but packed with gourmet cheeses and pates purveyors, boulangeries, and other food merchants. The smells are wonderful and you'll be greatly tempted to buy more than you... More

Another great place to check local food, see people and walk a little bit. As a lover of this kind of places, I'd definitely recommend this one. Plus: it's one of the most ancient streets of Paris.

Rue Mouffetard remains one of the best streets for strolling and enjoying the markets, shops and cafes along the way, from one end to the other

You should go there on Sunday around noon, on square Saint-Médard you have the chance to dance or just listen the live music of french chansons. That's a great place to start the Sunday afternoon with... I can highly recomment it!

Rue Mouffetard is a quaint shopping street, full of vendors who pull their wares, out into the street. Saturday is the biggest day and there are many people and music fills the streets. It is a like a village within the large busy city. I highly recommend staying on or around this street as it has everything you could possibly... More

We went looking for all the local markets and visited one near Mouffetard which was good but this is the real gem. Free standing permanent locations and on a Sunday wares are displayed on the streets. The selections were amazing and the prices fairly good for an inner-city market. The cheese shops and prepared food were particularly good and it... More

Staying in Quartier Latin

Neighbourhood Profile
Quartier Latin
The Latin Quarter bursts with intellectual life, architectural splendour and ongoing merriment. The small streets are filled with classical buildings, student bars and lively eateries while the squares are dominated by historic monuments. The area is defined by the 800-year-old Sorbonne University, where Latin once prevailed, and is famous for the Pantheon which celebrates the great men and women of France. During the day students rush from classes to the library and intellectuals people watch from the terraced cafés. As night time falls the surrounding establishments fill up and the merriment really begins. The liveliest parts are around Rue Mouffetard, lined with crêperies and international street food eateries, and Place de la Contrescarpe characterised by terraced brasseries, this neighbourhood provides real nourishment for the mind, belly, and soul.
