Horrible, dirty, failed experience. Transferring from Norse station, Lazaare was a complete failure. I can in no way tell you how many levels up and down, excessive walking and climbing, NO escalators or elevators were working! At just one stair was 87 steps up with luggage! No elevator or lift. With luggage. We missed our connection by two mins, train still there but would not allow us access. Missed connection, missed tour in Bayeux. We waited in new line to purchase new tickets, which took 57 minutes, barely made next new connection. Take a taxi! It’s worth it. Horrible experience!

This big train station was renovated somewhat recently, and as a result, it is brighter and more modern than the others. Some new shopping and eating. It serves the northwest of France and many suburban towns and works well for the visitor.

We arrived at this train station from Rouen. It has been completely re-built and is very modern, multi-level with many places to shop and eat. We had to scan our tickets to exit the quai area which was annoying. And then it was very difficult to find the exit out to the street. Modern yet confusing.

The station historical building is quiet impressive and the station is relatively big since acting as train and metro station. There are a wide variety of related stores, restaurants and cafes but the problem most of them are closed after 8:00 pm despite the fact that the train and metro services do not close that early and would be frustrating to wait in the evening for your train departure or should you feel hungry . Overall recommended

Gare St. Lazare is a huge station. We came here several times and felt quite comfortable finding our way around. Its history goes back a long way, to around the early part of the 19th century. It's a beautiful station architecturally and there are many shops inside so you are sure to find something to buy.

We've passed through Gare St Lazare six times in the last four years. Each time, we were accosted by women begging. It probably wouldn't be so irritating if they didn't get right up in your face. And it's been the same women every time.

Please be aware of the petty scam artists in Paris. This pass Summer six of my family members, myself included, visited Paris and were scammed out 107.35 euros. The scam is so slick. Do some research, just type Paris train scams in your search bar and many of the tactics will come up. We were left feeling down, and super stressed and literally wanting to come back home. Avoid anyone who offers help in the train stations. They could either be male or female. They will try to offer you help with buying tickets for the train. They will trick you into thinking your credit card does not work at the machine and without asking purchase the most expensive tickets for you with their CC and then expect you give them the cash for what they spent on the CC. Long story short we paid this guy 17.35 euros for train tickets that cost .60cents. We found out we were scam on the way back when the '2 day' ticket was not working at the entrance. Please walk away, they will come off as very helpful, kind, and over zealous to help. If you can not speak. or read French, like us, forget about it- you're a sitting duck. He robbed us with a smile. Refuse help, go directly to any ticket agent at a window or who works for transit. Also, he or she may wear a fake badge that might look official with a moments glance. No one is ever that really helpful. The scammer will even walk you to the correct train or bus that you need to take and shake your hand and wish you well.
Before this trip I was super excited to see Paris, now I can't wait to get home and I will never come back.

We stayed just by here and we used this station multiple times per day. Every time it was clean and we felt safe. There are a couple of great shops inside too!
Just a quick tip.. the first time we went to buy tickets we didn't have any coins/cash on us. We tried to use our australian travel card which didn't work. After a few confusing conversations with some french locals, we found a billetterie on the top level (not the agency which had a huge line, but just across the hall) we easily bought a ticket and from then on, always carried coins :)
I am seriously fascinated with the rail system of inner-city Paris.. we loved it! never had a delayed train and always felt safe!

We arrived via metro for our train trip to Normandy for the day. Signage was very good from the metro all the way to where we needed to be through several layers of train station. In the station itself, there were lots of stores and shopping, but all the things necessary to a traveller were there too. Restrooms (had to pay for), water and food. We had to arrive early but were able to use the Croissanterie Quai St. Lazare (Trip Advisor has no listing for this business) kiosk to get coffee and a continental breakfast before boarding our train.

One note: We were shocked that, while everywhere we went in Paris, security was tight, here there was no apparent security. We were able to board the train with no check-in, no bag check and no one ever asked to see our tickets. Very odd. The same thing happened at the end of the day when returning from Caen.

This station is very busy on the weekends so take that into account when making plans to visit other parts of France. There was a workers strike that cancelled most trains going to Caen (this seems to happen often). We tried asking information about alternatives, but the language barrier plus the amount of people in line made getting correct information hard. We were told that we could use our tickets we had already bought on another train. What they didn't tell us was that we needed to find an empty seat on the last train out. Most seats on the train were already assigned, we needed to find empty seats where we could. The station is like a mall with very little seating and many many people coming and going. The station also charges .80 euro cents to use the bathroom, so be prepared for that. Use of the ticket machines was easy and in English, and accepted credit cards without a PIN. Lots of beggars and pick pocketers so mind your wallet/purse and your belongings.
