This jazz bar wasn't always known for its smooth jazz acts: boogie-loving GIs frequented its cool, smoky interiors during World War II.

I paid 5 euros for a request that was never played. I recognize that professional musicians have a pre established set but it would have been nice to have been told that my request would not have have been honored. I probably would have still tipped. A nice evening was marred by poor professionalism.

THis was a recommended place in the Marco Polo guidebook we had. We went on a Monday night and maybe things are slower then. Even though we were there late, they still wanted to charge us the full cover price. Not that great and the music is downstairs, so you cannot see what the crowd or music is like. We... More

This was hands down my favorite evening in Paris! The four piece jazz group was amazing especially the saxonphone. The cave was not in any way claustrophobic and the music was heavenly. Soooo much fun to watch the dancers - from professional to amateur they were all entertaining. We did not want to dance so we took a bench off... More

Lucky to be in Paris when Ellen Birath and the Shadow Cats played the Caveau - basically a dungeon with a 600 year history, and a legendary jazz club, where all the classic stars have performed. Great atmosphere. Beverages a bit pricy, but not a rush to the bar. Great place to listen to music and watch the numerous swing-dancers...if... More

Last night, the swing band had patrons tapping toes and tumbling infectiously onto the dance floor, regardless of their proficiency - everyone was just on to have a good time, relaxed and accepting. Conveniently located in a small pedestrian alley in the Quartier Latin, near a variety of touristy stores and restaurants, the Caveau offers cheap drinks, albeit with a... More

I was in this jazz bar 25 years ago and when I visited last week nothing has been changed since. Elen Birath and the Shadow Cats was the group playing swing, bebop and big bang like music of 30s to 60s. Mustafa visit when in Paris.

If you want a great night out in Paris, then I can't recommend this place enough. Live band singing great songs, with local Parisians doing crazy dance moves! Quaint club with amazing atmosphere, laid back and so much fun - a true gem !

Been there twice, 2014 & 2015, great fun! Five mins walk from Fontaine St. Michel, well worth the walk!

A friend of mine recommended it so we ended up going there on a Friday night without knowing what we would see or hear and the entrance was 15€. We saw a swing show which was greatly amplified by the amazing boogie dancers that started coming out of the audience. An elderly couple specially was a sight to see. Such... More

Prepare to go deep down through time. The Caveau is a jazz club where people listen to jazz (mostly before bebop was invented) and dance. It's obvious some people go there often and know each other, but they can set the pace for others. A very peculiar ambiance reminiscent of a time in history when jazz was not a music... More

Staying in Odeon / Saint-Michel

Neighbourhood Profile
Odeon / Saint-Michel
As the bustling center of entertainment for the residents of the Rive Gauche, the activity at Odéon never stops. Boulevards are lined with traditional cafes, restaurants, and boutique cinemas. The streets surrounding the fountain at Saint-Michel provide eateries from around the world. Lively bars are just next door and the prototypical terraced French brasserie is on every corner. The setting for this area is second to none; the Haussmann-style boulevards are contrasted by monumental architecture and overshadowed by the iconic Notre Dame, all within a moment’s walk from the Seine. This neighbourhood's world-famous bookshops, cafés, and streets will not fail to impress you.
