We went to see Kiss Me Kate on Saturday. It was my first time at the Châtelet, and I booked online (57 euros / ticket) so I didn't really have anything to compare to, but and we were in the second balcony, right in the middle. While the play was fantastic, it was all in English which was fine for... More

The building is beautiful and the stage is HUGE! We came to see Singin In The Rain as we had friends in it, but as we left booking tickets quite late we ended up in 2 sets of 2 seats in 2 different areas of the theatre and they were both bad in different ways! Firstly seats on the side... More

We saw Singing in the Rain yesterday afternoon and it really was a spectacular interpretation of the classic film. The theater itself if beautiful but be careful where your seats are located - we were on the side in the 'corbeil' and had an excellent view or the stage. The show itself has no dull moments at all; the singing,... More

It has got a long history from 1862. Rebuilt and renovated several times, its programming chenged also a lot. Today they have mainly musicals, dance performances, operas and concerts.

We visited "An American in Paris" since it was in english. The theatre is a lovely building and the view from the floor very good. Avoid the "strapontins" (folding seat) though as it's terrible to sit on them! There's a good place next door (Bords de la Seine) to get a quick meal before the show (they're quick and used... More

We were lucky to buy last minute tickets to a sold out performance of "An American in Paris"! It was wonderful. We had a slightly limited view which was fine with us. The music was fantastic and familiar and the costumes and sets were really fun. What a treat! Great theater!

On a lark, we picked up tickets to a matinee showing of An American in Paris. Very glad we saw it, but sitting in the highest balcony on the side hindered our appreciation. Our 7 year old was too young, but our 10 year old accepted it, and the 12 and 13 year olds loved it. Great ballet.

My Mum and I went to see An American in Paris at the Chatelet a couple of weeks ago. The theatre is in a very nice area. We were in a hotel very near by, and thoroughly enjoyed the 3 days that we spent there. There was a bit of a scrum outside the theatre, and also whilst queing inside... More

This Broadway bound show has very witty choreography from Christopher Wheeldon set to Gershwin’s classic tunes but, hélas, is in a theatre that is more geared to be seen and not to see (nor hear) the on-goings onstage. It tries very hard to erase the memory of Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron who somehow bewitched us when the film came... More

Staying in Les Halles

Neighbourhood Profile
Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.
