We have been staying close to the Opera House and have been very happy to base our stay in Paris here. I know there are so many amazing areas to stay and this one might be a little more quiet. Obviously close to some fantastic restaurants. This is a central place to stay and everything feels in walking distance. We... More

A fairly average sort of area. The Opera House was OK on the outside. Didn't go in but understand its lovely inside. We went to the Paris Story which is a 1 hr film about the history of places etc. The venue is just opposite the Opera House and down some stairs below ground level. We enjoyed the film because... We got off of the Metro in this area to walk down to the Louvre on a couple of occasions. It was a nice area to walk through with lovely buildings and plenty of little shops, cafes and restaurants. It's just a little bit out of the way so not too busy.

I think to really appreciate the heritage of the area you need to be into theatre and films. This area of Paris is great but there is so much to see in other parts. I think this is a good area to base your stay in Paris however if you are fit and keen to do some walking to other... More

I go to the Opera district several times a week either for shopping (Galeries Lafayette, Le Printemps etc..) going to the Opera and having a meal at the Café de la Paix. Very joyful atmosphere.

Created at the same time as the Palais Garnier Opera House, the main purpose of the Place de l'Opéra is to offer passers-by the finest view of the magnificent facade of the Palais Garnier Opera House. The redevelopment of the square took place under Haussmann who wanted to facilitate the circulation of traffic in the district. An ideal spot for... More

We caught the Metro, which is right at the Opera and walked to what is a real world class shopping precinct. We wanted to find a gap, HandM, Tommy Hilfiger, Starbucks and proper French cuisine. We found only so much more, you could spend a week shopping in this area. It isn't just about the shopping as many of these... More

The area around the Opera House is even more spectacular at night in my opinion. If you get a chance to visit, don't hesitate! You won't regret it.

The Opera district is an excellent example of Haussmann’s renovation of Paris. Its wide, tree-lined Grand Boulevards are truly impressive. This lively district is named after the Paris Opera, which is housed in the famous Palais Garnier located in the middle of this area. The stunning, richly decorated opera house is one of the most beautiful in the world. Do... More

This is one of the best and elegant areas of Paris for a walk and for high street retail. Bars, shops and kiosks are located all the way. The Opera building is located at the end of the road offering a charming view. Bonne promenade!

Staying in Opera / Bourse

Neighbourhood Profile
Opera / Bourse
The neighbourhood around Opéra and Bourse is a belle époque paradise of grand boulevards, refined arcades, and mass-market art-nouveau entertainment. Here, modern day workers continue to take advantage of the legacy that nobility and finance left in the 19th century. Brightly-lit brasseries, theatres, and cinemas sit side by side with French bistros predominating in one area and Japanese restaurants in another. The area is most famous for the Palais Garnier opera house and glamorous department stores.
