This is a magnificent obelisk, dating back over 3,000 years. The obelisk is located on a base in the middle of the square and is a MUST for every photography enthusiast.

the obelisk itself is a magnificent structure standing aloft even after so many decades. it has a small enclosure around it in the centre of the square but picture are better taken from across the road unless you want close-ups

What can you say. There it stood in the midst of traffic - 3000 years old. Maybe a must for a history buff.

Explains the structure of Paris - the palaces avenues and Arc to my young daughters were much easier from this point of view - specially there are parks ( Tuileries garden and Champs elysees ) Close by . The physic of the monument raises lots...More

Very easy to see as it's in a main area with lots of other attractions 3000 years old with a similar obelisk in Egypt it's interesting to see and just one of many, many historic items dotting Paris's landscape.

It is great to see if you know the history of the monument. The obelisk is 3000 years old and has a twin standing in front of a temple in Egypt. On the obelisk are pictures describing how they shipped the pillar across the sea(a...More

Up close and far away - it looks good from both. This is the area where people were decapitated via guillotine after the French Revolution... Just in case you were interested! 1876

The obelisk sits in the middle of a big open square flanked by fountains and under the big wheel (when it is there). I think it is wonderful - the hieroglyphics are very interesting and it's great to try and work out what it says....More

I find the location strange, considering the traffic around it; we saw it many times at a distance and walked passed it once but it only worth a minute of our time.

Louvre / Palais-Royal
From the majestic Louvre to the regal Palais-Royal,
this neighbourhood oozes luxury. The grand arches
along Rue de Rivoli are shadowed by mosaics in front
of decorated vitrines and hotels. Place Vendôme is
lined with the world’s best jewelers and their
glittering window displays. Every other establishment
has someone to open the door for you or park your car.
You can spend hours gazing at its haute couture shops
