Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spotted this medieval building on our walk from Ile St. Louis to the middle of the Marais. It has a lovely garden next to it where people sit on sunny days. Good place to take a picnic lunch. This was an official residence centuries ago. Nicely preserved.

On the Rue de Fourcy, this charming medieval mansion wedged among city buildings would have been in the country and have sweeping views when built in 1475 . It still has, on this back side, a beautifully preserved tapestry garden that is surprisingly tranquil amid the city hustle and bustle. Today, you can still see where there is a cannon ball lodged in the wall that dates to the revolution. The garden is free but there is a fee to tour the mansion which is worth the price of admission.Other points of interest nearby are two fine examples of exposed beam houses preserved from the 15th century at #11 and # 13 Rue Francios Miron. Frequent fires over the years have made these houses very rare. Also along rue de l' Ave Maria you will find remains of the wall and two partially restored towers that protected the city in the 13th century.

Apparently, the Hotel de Sens was under refurbishment for many years. It is now open and definitely worth the trip. They have an exhibition going on through the summer about fashion and women 1914 to 1918. It is in English and French and free admittance. The show explains so much of the cultural shift that happened during the war. I loved the postcards in the exhibit showing how men and women communicated and keeping the old traditions during the war.
There's a silent film that is very definitely watch worth watching to get a sense of how The women in the city and countryside supplied much of the needed work while the men fought on the front. Interestingly, 8 million women worked before the war as well as during the war, but the shift to what kind of work they did was remarkable. The uniforms and dresses on display are awesome and quite revealing.

Our guide book said that this was one of three medieval mansions left in Paris. Being interested we went. The exterior and courtyard are very beautiful. There is a small garden at the rear. There is little to see inside of any medieval interiors. The space is used by the Bibliotheque for exhibits. There was an exhibition of the 400 spoons from all over the world. One of the more eccentric exhibits we have seen and mildly interesting. Based on this show I would give the Bibliotheque Forney 3 stars. I would give the building itself 4 stars

I just walked around the corner and discovered the Biblioteque Fornay in the Hotel de Sens. The exhibit was of a French Artist/Illustrator, Jacqueline Deheme.

Here is a gem of an exhibit. A spoon maker and collector is displaying a wonderful collection of hundreds of spoons from around the world. Every culture needs spoons and it is so interesting to see the variety. Seeing is believing. A short video on modern spoon making is also shown which is equally interesting. African, Asian, European, Latin American spoons vie for prominence and there is a wonderful exhibit of hundreds of different wooden spoons hanging from the ceiling. If you have the time go and see it, you will not be disappointed.

This building is a surviving example of Middle Ages architecture. It sustained an attack during a revolution in 1830 and has a cannonball embedded into the eastern wall. One of Paris's quirky oddities and worth a look if you're passing through.

Any good walking tour of the Marais is going to include a drive-by of the Hotel de Sens. So when we showed our friend around Paris during her first time in France, I steered us in that direction. Hotel de Sens really does cut an intriguing figure, since it is so obviously much more ancient than the regular buildings one finds in the neighborhood. Now if only they would offer a tour of the interior - I hear one can visit the library it now houses, but I always happen to be walking by on a weekend day when all is shut up. Well, it is still pretty awesome to look at.

Close to M St. Paul, we learned of this on a paris walks tour. Wonderful garden to sit in. Amazing spotless public bathroom and an exhibit on cutlery that was world class.

We went there to go on the tour but could only find a library and garden. No tours available. We wandered around to make sure we'd not missed anything and asked a local but no luck.

Is it possible to go inside the Hotel de Sens/Biblioteque Fornay? What are the hours Sept. 26 to Oct. 9? What is the price to enter the mansion? What are the hours when one may enter the garden?
