I participated in a Versailles private tour with the Viator company and our tour guide was the effervescent, highly educated, extremely knowledgable and rapier witted Stephanie. Versailles is mind blowing and my words wouldn't provide it justice. Do yourself a favour and go and see this place before you kick the proverbial bucket.

Tours offer "tickets included - save you queuing", however this merely saves you time queuing for entrance tickets - you still have to join an enormous queue which zig zags qround the open courtyard and will take at least an hour just to reach the single entrance point. These queues are poorly controlled (easy queue jumping by yobs) and entirely without... Our National Coach holidays trip to Paris, included admission to Palace of Versailles. We know now that if we had paid independently then an overpriced waste of money visit. First impressions on approach were exciting. Beautiful building with lots of gold iron work. Inside was a different matter. Only a few rooms open. Other travellers told us that on previous... More

We had only scheduled half a day, ended up spending the entire day and wished we had time to go back another day. Get there early to get tickets because the lines do get long. We took the train from Paris, which is fun, and got there just as it was opening. Make sure you walk the garden and take... More

We visited Paris in April 2014 for the first time. Paris has a very easily accessible metro and train system. a 5 day metro pass for zone 1 to 5 is 59.50 euros which covers Versailles on the west and disney on the east. If only zone 1 to 3 it is 34.70 euros that basically covers all the city... More

This amazing palace doesn't cease to please! The grounds themselves are astonishing, with so many fountains, grottoes, private gardens, theaters and so much more! The lovely architecture of the palace is enough to make your jaw drop! The hundreds of gilded and baroque rooms make the banks seem poor! 2 billion dollars from the French Treasury made this unique and... More

As you walk up to the Place just the golden gates make you realise that you're in for a treat. The Parisian royals definitely lived the life. Make sure you pick up the free audio headsets as this help when going from room to room in the Palace. The hall of mirrors is a sight to see as are the... More

Buy your tickets from the tourist office outside the palace saves you from queuing when you are inside. Very fast flowing going from room to room, take an audio guide which is free and very useful. You can spend 2-3 hours there. The mini train is not worth going on for 4 euros each you don't get to see much.... More

My doctor had recommended the palace but we had no idea how amazing and worthwhile this excursion would turn out. We took the train/subway, a nice ride to the country. I believe it was 30 minutes from the city. The palace is a few blocks from the station. Make sure you have your walking shoes on because this is extensive... More
