Neighbourhood: Le Marais
The Marais is a winding maze of multi-faceted streets that beg to be explored. It bursts with small boutiques, historic buildings, cozy traditional restaurants, and hidden parks. Around each corner, you'll come across little gems of architecture spanning the centuries, from understated medieval towers to classical libraries and 17th century splendour. This neighbourhood unites a rich mix of people of all ages, but it's best known for the gay scene mostly in the south and the Jewish community around Rue des Rosiers.

Whatever you are looking for in Paris, you can find almost everything in Le BHV Marais. We have been through Galleries LaFayette and the other high end shopping areas in Paris and in Les Halles, but the best overall shopping experience is found in Le BHV Marais. The floors are clearly marked as to main contents, the displays are well spaced and the staff are easily found in every department. Help is always available with smiles and courtesy - even if you don’t speak French. It was such a joy to shop there and the selections are huge and the prices very reasonable especially when compared to LaFayette and the others.
One could spend an entire day shopping here, stop for a bite of lunch and then carry on. It truly was refreshing to spend time in this store - we left with many gifts to take home and were happy to have spent our foreign funds in such a well managed establishment.

I purchased a number by of items my last day in Paris at Le BHV Marais. I went to the tax refund area and was helped by an extremely rude woman. I gave her all the receipts and she completed the form. I had some questions and started to talk. Without a word, she turned around and walked away and no one else spoke English. At the time, I didn’t realize she didn’t complete the form properly. She didn’t write my name properly and she didn’t list all the items I purchased and I was unable to get a tax refund.
I was helped in the Lancôme department by a woman named India. She was polite, extremely knowledgeable and professional. It was a pleasure being helped by her. I would give 5 stars for India and 0 for the miserable woman in the service area.

I love, love love Paris and have been annually for the last few years. I always stay at the same hotel: Relais Hotel Vieux Paris on the left bank. Its a small hotel built in the 1500’s and known as the “Beat Hotel” because of the writers who used to live there. The area is close to Notre Dame, Saint Germain des Pres, Bon Marche, etc. Its right near Place Saint Michel with plenty of bus and metro connections. There are many reasonably priced restaurants with great food. Check the web for conccerts in the churches. And if you like jazz, check out Caveau de la Huchette.

Such a great store and wonderful shopping experience. My husband and I visited store to purchase a table cloth for our daughter and the two people in the department who helped us were absolutely fabulous. They were so helpful, and really helped us to purchase the item we were looking for. Could not have asked for a better experience. They went above and beyond to help us.

Worst service ever!
After having spent over EUR1000 at the store my wife got stopped by a security guard because her bag beeped at those security checkpoints at the exit.
The security guard was not satisfied to be shown the receipts and wanted her to take every single item out of her bags and check one by one.
I got so mad at the event that immediately asked for the security manager to show up, who did nothing but reinforce the procedure.
We were forced to lay down every single item of purchase on the floor while he checked.
After realizing it was their incompetence for not having removed the tags on many products, we were dismissed without any compensation for the humiliating event.
I won't ever be touching this magazine again. My family and I have never been humiliated this way. If you want to visit this store just pray your bag doesn't beep on your way out.

If you want to find one-stop shopping at its best and at a good price in Paris, then BHV is your kind of place. It is one of the oldest in Paris and in a treasure trove of everything at great prices compared with other outlets. While the building and shop spaces themselves might not have the designer chic of Galeries Lafayette or Printemps, for example, they offer the same merchandise more cheaply. Shoppers don't actually buy the store decor anyway - they want great prices, especially in France, which is already expensive.
BHV occupies a main building on Rue de Rivoli and then has the BHV Man and BHV Wine are nearby on Rue de la Verrerie and Rue des Archives respectively. For fashion, housewares/homewares and appliances, it is tops and the basement is absolute Man Heaven for tools and hardware! In my view it has a better selection than any specialist hardware outlet I have been to in France! It also has a huge arts and crafts department.
The in-house cafe and restaurant offers the best value food in Paris and the very best coffee in a city where memorable coffee is rare. If you want a fun day shopping and eating, this is a must-visit place.

My mother and I came into the store to look for some cosmetic items to see the difference in price in France vs Canada. After looking at many items, and trying to receive help were often ignored or dismissed because of our lack of French. (we always try to speak a little bit then ask of they speak English). While in the perfume section I tired on some perfume. The two men working there offered no help and chatted to themselves. Upon putting some perfume on my wrist and rubbing it together I was scolded by one of the men for "destroying" the fragrance. Upon realizing we were English he scolded me
again I'm English repeating that I am destroying the fragrance. I tried telling him that back in Canada that's what I was always told to do. He looked at me and said nothing but gave a disgusted looked making me feel embarrassed and humiliated. Upon walking away by basic French told me he and his friend talked about us calling us "Americans" in a derogatory way. No offence intended by I am a Canadian and hold my nationality proudly. I will never be shopping there again and am disappointed that the staff took such a negative approach to a teaching moment.

After reading some reviews, we stopped by BHV with the intention of finding gifts to bring home. We started in the basement which we entered directly from the Metro. The basement sells hardware type goods. We bought very French-looking signs "musician" "artiste" "toilettes" and some house numbers for friends. They were quite expensive at around 17-25 euros a piece. The second floor had stationery and a complete selection of house cleaning supplies. I was tempted to buy the soaps and towels there but we were under serious space/weight limitations. The 3rd floor had tableware, spices, salts, chocolates and other gift items. We bought some very nice Le Jacquard Francais tea towels as gifts. The ground and 1st floors were women's shoes and clothes.
I was told that the store was closed for quite awhile, was renovated and and just recently reopened. I never went to the old BHV which I think might have been a little more of a bargain haven. It's now called "BHV Marais." Anyhow, it seems like an ordinary department store -- definitely less glitzy than Galeries Lafayette.
Tip: Enter the store on the right side off Rue du Rivoli. There is a detaxe counter there. Before you start shopping, you should get a 10% discount card for tourists by showing your passport. You have to return to this desk in order to get your detaxe form (if you spend more than 175 euros) Note that the 10% is separate and in addition to the about 12% VAT tax refund.

I went there to buy a set of bedsheets, pillowcases and matress protector. altogether I paid 375 euros for the transactions. I was not entirely sure of the size so I asked the sales person if I could exchange the product if the size was wrong, and he told me that there was no issues, I should just be careful to open gently and keep the product package in good condition which I did. The next day I came back to change the size of the bedsheets and the sales manager of the floor tells me that it can't do it. First he said that he didn't believe that someone told me this, I insisted and said that it was unfair and then just repeated that he didn't care what was said to me and that in any case he would never do anything for an exchange. He then told me that it was useless to make a complaint because he would be the one replying and he will again say no, no matter what.
I have honestly never been treated with such arrogance from a sales manager, the experience was shocking for a luxury store. Furthermore, their sales staff is not trained at all : the guy told me a lie or at least something he didn't know and I bought this based on what he told me.
Really really bad experience, I reccomend going somewhere else where they value their clients spending a fortune on their product a bit more.
