We attended the 2021 Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe race at Longchamp and were charmed by the beautiful setting and the excitement of world class horse racing. It was spectacular and we hope to go back again. The new grandstand is truly a gorgeous world class building worth seeing on it's own. We highly recommend it.

Booked the prestige hospitality to join customers and it was the perfect weekend for business and pleasure. Hospitality is well worth it with free champagne, beer, soft drinks and delicious nibbles all day.
The course is simply beautiful with manicured lawns, plenty of food stands and expansive.
The racing is of course top class.
Last attended with the cascade hospitality restaurant also well worth it but perhaps a little filling ahead of 10 races.
Highly recommend experience this amazing two day festival.

Considering the greatest all age mile and a half race is run at this track, the place is awful.
In the winning post enclosure, there were no spirits on sale at any bar, just three types of beer.
The food choice is two types of bread roll.
Little fontwell race track has better facilities.
Six of us went and no one will go back.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Longchamp Racecourse is a wonderful place to spend a day while in Paris. Wether you are a race aficionado or a complete novice, Lonchamp promises an enjoyable day. The track is surprisingly easy to visit from central Paris. By Metro from the Left Bank, just take the number 10 line from Cluny-Sorbonne or Odeon stations (any station on the 10 line) in the direction of Boulogne Pont de Saint-Cloud. Exit the Metro at Porte d'Auteuil station. On Saturdays and Sundays (and special race days) a free shuttle bus is offered from Porte d'Auteuil Metro station. this is about a 25 Min. metro ride. The free shuttle is actually a regular city bus. The street traffic intersection at Porte d'Auteuil is somewhat confusing as many streets converge here. To find the free shuttle, look for the typical track crowd (people reading racing sheets and carrying bag lunches). The bus parks and sits for 10-15 Mins. while riders get on. This bus delivers you directly to the Longchamp entrance. After the 4th or 5th race, free buses run at regular intervals to return visitors to the Porte d'Auteuil Metro station. The Longchamp racing season is April-Oct. Gates open at 11:30 and the first race is at 1:30. Admission is just 3-4 Euro and food and beverages are very reasonable (surprisingly). The grounds and facilities are beautiful with a windmill and partial view of the Eiffel Tower. Everything else happens very much like a North American track. This is a great venue.

I have been to nearly every Arc weekend since 2004 and have seen it grow from a relatively crowded affair to one where it was too tight to be comfortable, e.g. when Zarkava and Danedream won. In 2015 it was again an unenjoyable experience due to the size of the crowd and I resolved that that would be my last visit. However, luckily, I gave it another chance for the 2016 and 2017 meetings in Chantilly which were spendid affairs, the racecourse is bright and airy and you have fantastic access to view the horses in the stable area. Although the grandstand was insufficient for the numbers attending, the sloped lawn in front gave a good view of the course. On the basis that the redeveloped Longchamp might address some of the problems and that the general admission price was 75 Euro which is on a par with Royal Ascot thus implying similar facilities I decided to travel for 2018.
On arrival on the Saturday, it was obvious where the problems were going to be. The parade ring is a rat trap which can only be accessed via a steep terrace of steps. The grandstands can only be accessed via the bars which led to the back of the steps or tunnels which led to the lawn area at the bottom. The tunnels also contained the toilet facilities. The meeting on Saturday was a pleasant experience with approximately 10,000 in attendance, though anyone who was in the 'Jardin' area might as well have stayed at home for all of the racing they could see. The facilities as currently designed are fit to take around 20,000, no more.
On Sunday, a crowd of only 35,000 saw the whole infrastructure collapse. It was impossible to get anything to eat or drink and if you did drink something you were then going to have an interminable wait to get into a toilet, whilst part of a queue which was clogging up the access area in the tunnel. Accessing the parade ring meant a quick dash before the crowd formed on the steps. Exiting this area involved pushing your way back up against people standing on the access steps. Unless you headed there early there was little chance of getting on to the steps of the grandstand which meant viewing the race on a big screen from the flat lawn.
All in all, it was a dreadful experience, the only saving grace being that the crowd was so small. Given the prices charged it is unlikely that any casual Parisian racegoers will attend this meeting, giving you the feeling of being at Haydock Park or any other English course.
So can I suggest any improvements? One obvious one is that the old grandstand be brought into the equation so as to improve the amount of viewing area. This would involve moving the VIP area, which was set up this year in the form of several tents and gazebos, somewhere else or scrapping it altogether. This area could also be used as a food village and portaloo area. Access to the parade ring has to be improved, currently it is completely inaccessible for anyone who is either infirm or mobility handicapped. This would probably involve a reconfiguration of the area adjoining the saddling boxes to make it accessible to the public.
If I saw that France Galop were doing a serious examination and reconfig of the problem areas, then I might return for what is a superb weekend of horse racing. If not then they can keep it and I'll watch while the whole weekend becomes increasingly irrelevant.

We have been going to Longchamp for many years and yes, the old stand was tired, but at least there was a sense of occasion and some atmosphere as well as prices to make racing acessible to all and the chance to see the course and the horses at no extra cost after admission.
This year after the rebuilding of the stand there was very little to like.
Everywhere we looked people were standing in queues - for food, for drinks and for toilets and even to place bets! And not for a few minutes but for as much as 45 minutes!
For those who think that paying more got better service - you are so wrong. On the 3rd floor we had no access to a bar and the ladies toilet nearest our seating was cordonned off for the use of an even more expensive hospitality area. No wonder the attendance was so low
This event comes round every year just like Christmas so the organisers should have been only too aware what to expect and cater for. The majority of the people around us were British or Irish and every single one was unhappy with the way they were treated, especially considering the hugely increased cost to be there. This is a prestigious race meeting - not an opportunity to rip people off!
I suspect the number of attendees will be even less next year and we will certainly not be there. We can watch the TV at home and have access to everything we need to be comfortable

I went to attend the Arc weekend at Longchamp after heading loads about the redevelopment. At €125 million for the redevelopment you expect quite something. The reality is that they have had a disaster in the main area (Pelouse D’Arrive @€90 per ticket for weekend!).
Bars 🍾 🍺 The bars were inadequate - there were simply not enough of them and they took ages to service anything - they could have had 10 times the bar areas in the area and done far more efficient service. Average wait for a drink 40 mins - even for champagne by the bottle (€75 btw) - this could have been so much better .
Toilet 🚽 There were only two sets of toilets - which in the main area is just a joke - this meant 39 minutes queues for the men’s toilet. That should never happen.
Seating 💺- there is effectively no real seating in the Pelouse D’Arrive - it’s wooden boards which are low down and not comfortable. This was not what was envisaged on the tickets
Food 🥘 There is effectively only one area where you can eat in the Pelouse D’Arrive which is actually in the Jardins de L’Arc (unless you just want a hot dog / crepe) - it is ok and nice once you are in - Duck Shepards pie for €20. You can’t access either the Brasserie or other sit down restaurants without Balades tickets - which were sold out 4 months before the race day.
Ticketing areas - this is the part where they really have messed up. They appear to have restricted about 2/3 of the course to tickets that were sold out or just unable to obtain - I spent a lot of time online looking at tickets and there is no info on how you can get to the first - 4th floor of the stand. That meant that most of time on Saturday the majority of the stand was empty and the Pelouse D’Arrive was overrun with people - on the Sunday this was similar but there were obviously more people. Generally, this needs a serious rethink in terms of how they divide up the area of the stands - it meant for an awful experience for everyone I spoke to.
Betting - well this was a major disaster which links to the areas of the enclosure. On Sunday it took roughly 20 mins to get on any bet - there were not enough betting terminals and the majority were in one area which was vastly overcrowded - these really need to be spread around the course - that can be sorted for next year. This was made worse by the fact that the betting terminals that could be seen in other areas (that you could not access - note complaints below) were barely used. In a moment of absolute farce the main betting area lost power 10 minutes before the Prix de L’Opera race - taking down maybe 50 betting points - this caused outrage amongst about 500 punters who didn’t get bets on! This is relatively inexcusable - especially as it was then said this happened as the Crepe Stand short fused this area 😱🤷🏼♂️!!
Exclusivity - they have made a number of decisions that go beyond having different levels for attending a race day and in my view border on absolutely ridiculous concepts. They have tried to make the venue so exclusive that they have various lounges and restaurants that appear virtually empty but are priced at unbelievable prices - and I am not adverse to paying if it’s worth it. This is exemplified by the fact that the Panoramic restaurant decided to have a special menu - charged at €1080 per person! Be it Royal Ascot, Goodwood, Grand National - this must be unprecedented. The reaction to this is that the best restaurant in the place remained broadly empty - like a ghost town. A world away from the amazing restaurant at Deauville over the course which has a very reasonable menu - even in the height of August.
Overall this place needs a huge rethink before next year. I will be writing to France Gallop to try and encourage this - and also to ask for any form of refund for the disaster that this year was.
The racing was great - the facilities need a major rethink to make them work - not the infrastructure - just how they run the place. Otherwise this will literally become a €125 Gold White Elephant sitting on the edge of Paris - which would be a huge shame!
I will come again next year - not being one who only likes to try these things once - but they have a lot to do to make up for this year!

I will state up front I am a huge fan of this racecourse and the more I go the more I love the place. Most people will go on Prix de l'arc de triomphe day in October. This is a great day if a bit hectic. It currently costs 8 Euros entry, which includes a superb racecard, compare that to the £30 - £50 for vastly inferior race days in England. Your entry gives you access to all areas except the reserved seating.
The course is simply beautiful as is the setting of the Bois de Bologne with the Eiffel Tower clearly visible above the trees.
More recently I have been going to the French Guineas meeting (2 classic races on one day) in May. This meeting is much more relaxed than the Arc day and entry is FREE and you can sit in the seats directly above the finishing line.
On my last visit I went to the Grand Prix de Paris meeting on the evening of Bastille day. This again is FREE with open access to all grandstand seating PLUS they hold an excellent concert behind the stands after racing. There are even free buses to and from the track up to 1 am! If you're used to racing in rip off Britain you'll think you've died and gone to heaven if you go to one of these great days at Longchamp.
The course is simply beautiful as is the setting of the Bois de Bologne with the Eiffel Tower clearly visible above the trees.
More recently I have been going to the French Guineas meeting (2 classic races on one day) in May. This meeting is much more relaxed than the Arc day and entry is FREE and you can sit in the seats directly above the finishing line.

It has now been 5 months since my visit to Paris to see the 'Arc, and which without elaborating too much, was very disappointing. It will shortly be time for me to consider booking again, but before doing so, it would be appreciated if France gallop can outline the improvements that have, or will be made to the facilities for the 2019 Arc. Without a lot of information, it is unlikely I would book to go again.

We have attended the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe by taking a table in the Panoramic Restaurant every year for each of the past 32 years. This year, having failed to reserve a table, we were offered an 'Elegance' package at nearly twice the price of the restaurant package that we had bought the previous year.
We were left very angry and disgusted with what we received. The venue and reserved seating was situated as far away from the winning post as it was possible to get on the second floor, giving a very poor view of the finish of the race. We arrived early to find that in the Zarkava Suite there were four flimsy poseur tables and some 20 to 25 uncomfortable plastic stools. Outside there were some two or three more poseur tables, this to accommodate what appeared to be some 150-200 guests. The marketing brochure, sent to entice us to reserve, showed a spacious venue with comfortable chairs and couches. Most of the attendees had to stand while eating.
The 'buffet' consisted entirely of small cold canapes. No hot food at all. Even the food that was available was insufficient for the number of guests and substantially ran out mid-afternoon. Later on in the afternoon the bar ran out of red wine, beer and even tea. As the big race approached a number of spectators who had not paid for the ‘Elegance’ package were climbing into the area and taking seats with no action from security. Long queues built up at the PMU and to obtain a drink. Frankly it was an absolute shambles, each of the many guests that we spoke to was angry and bitterly complaining - and all at a cost of Euros 720 per head. Longchamp and France Galop should be ashamed of themselves for providing what was a thoroughly unpleasant experience.
We would not normally compose a complaint notice of this nature on Trip Advisor but we are so annoyed. We shall certainly be considering whether, for the first time since 1986, we should not attend the race next year. We would certainly need an alternative to the debacle that was 'Elegance'.

The 'buffet' consisted entirely of small cold canapes. No hot food at all. Even the food that was available was insufficient for the number of guests and substantially ran out mid-afternoon. Later on in the afternoon the bar ran out of red wine, beer and even tea. As the big race approached a number of spectators who had not paid for the ‘Elegance’ package were climbing into the area and taking seats with no action from security. Long queues built up at the PMU and to obtain a drink. Frankly it was an absolute shambles, each of the many guests that we spoke to was angry and bitterly complaining - and all at a cost of Euros 720 per head. Longchamp and France Galop should be ashamed of themselves for providing what was a thoroughly unpleasant experience.
We would not normally compose a complaint notice of this nature on Trip Advisor but we are so annoyed. We shall certainly be considering whether, for the first time since 1986, we should not attend the race next year. We would certainly need an alternative to the debacle that was 'Elegance'.

Hi, In 2018 , there were huge complaints about the toilet access and facilities. Did you feel this was an issue or not? We have been many times to the ARC and enjoyed Chantilly very much but reviews of the rebuilt Paris stand are extraordinarily mixed

Hi I’m going for the first time to the Saturday races. We have only booked the Jardin. How should I dress and would I have a better experience if I upgraded to better tickets? Is it very busy on the Saturday usually?

We are going on an organised trip and the ticket is for the centre of the track in the arc village however we have bought tickets for the arc garden English quarters. Can we transfer on the course by crossing the track or do we have to use the turnstiles

Not sure. Last year you could not but they have changed things this year after heavy criticism. They now sell a ticket called Pelouse which is 65 euros ( double the 'village cost'.) This allows you access to the lawn on the grandstand side of the course which is probably where you want access. You will probably have to clarify this with France Galop. We are going again this year with our fingers crossed!

Hi I am going to Longchamp for the Arc for the first time this year, what do people normally wear seeing as it is October? Just wondering if people dress up (men in suits and women in dresses and heels) or can you get away with more casual? Thanks

Quite casual unless you're going to the posh bits; probably not jeans and sweatshirts though.
