You've worked hard and you've seen all the big attractions. You're overloaded on art, architecture, and stained glass. You've earned a break. And Promenade Plantee is just what you've been looking for. This shady walkway -- parts of it elevated -- goes from near Bastille east to Bois de Vincennes. We walked almost all of it. The first part, which... More

You should definitely be ready to take some photos along the Promenade Plantee. Floating above street level, this promenade provides a balcony-high view of Parisian apartment buildings and streetscapes. It was a hot June day when we went. Worn out by the heat, we did not walk the entire length of it, but plan to return soon. We did use... More

The promenade plantée (aka la Coulée verte) is truly a hidden Parisian gem. You can stroll along this 4.7km-long passageway which used to be an old railway and enjoy the greenery and the quiet. It's not very touristy, so it never gets busy or crowded, but it's really loved by Parisians. Make sure you don't miss this beautiful Parisian scene.

This walk is around the corner from our hotel. If you like walking or biking without the crowds then it is the activity for you. The walk ends near Notre Dame and you can descend at many exits along the way. It has a kids park along the way too. Shady, toilets and solitude make it a lovely place for... More

We had visited this lovely dis-used railway line in the Winter a few years ago so wanted to see it in full bloom! It is reached by stairs close to Opera Bastille and if you are fit enough you can walk for about 3 miles! The gardens are varied - grasses, trees, flowers, shrubs and there is a water feature that... This old railway line has been converted into a walking / jogging trail, complete with gardens, ponds and design features. I've walked, at street level, through some of these neighbourhoods in the past without ever realising this was just above me. Well worth visiting and walking through.

What a delightful space in a metropolis like Paris and a great way for us to commute from our hotel in the 12th arron into the city. There are streatches which are so peaceful you totally forget you are in a city! Everything was tended to nicely.

The Promenade is an old rail line that begins near Place Bastille. It is green and shady in summer and catches the cooling breeze. The views are interesting and under your feet are artisan shops build into the arches of the old bridge. When you've had enough of shade, exercise and cool breezes walk back along the artisan arcade and... More

This is a disused elevated railway line which was changed into a walking path and garden. It is very well done and worthwhile looking at this attraction. It was very peaceful quiet place and relaxing to walk along or take your time on a bike. It is fairly well hidden so look carefully or you might miss the entrance.

The Coulée Verte, (or Promenade Plantee) was formed from a disused railway line above a viaduct. You can get onto this trail about 100 metres south of the Place de la Bastille - past the Bastile Opera House, in Rue de Lyon. There is a stairway up to the pathway, with a sign saying Coulée verte René-Dumont. The pathway goes... More
